Please... have you any idea what this could be ?
I'm scared it's serious as it's going on a few days.
The pain isnt affecting
My ability to work or get on with my day but the nausea about an hour after eating is just awful.
I've lost my appetite.
I wake up with nausea most mornings and a Pepcid ac can relieve symptoms. I'm not jaundiced, my energy is the same as always but I can't tolerate much fat at all.
The pain feels like a niggle, in my upper stomach area... a little to the upper right.
My urine etc are all perfectly normal .
I'm 50

Could it be gallstones? It usually flares up when eating fat and it’s in the right side where you’d feel the pain

BlackStrayCat · 15/01/2025 17:26

Gallstones

gamerchick · 15/01/2025 17:30

Gallstones.

I'd probably ask for a scan before the full blown attacks start OP.

angelstread · 15/01/2025 20:04

Thanks . I'm
Also belching a lot and feeling a bit shaky/ jittery ..

Classic gallstones

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2025 20:38

Yup, gallstones.

angelstread · 15/01/2025 20:51

Thanks again. What do I do ? Stop eating fat? Take painkillers or what drugs work ?

OP posts:
StuffedFullOfFromage · 15/01/2025 20:53

Yes, eliminate fat in your diet as far as possible.

Buscopan for relief.

angelstread · 15/01/2025 20:53

Thank you! At what stage do you need surgery or is it possible to avoid ? Is this reversible ?

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2025 21:20

Don't jump the gun. Get yourself to the GP.

angelstread · 16/01/2025 08:50

I felt perfectly
Fine this morning. I haven't eaten anything though and am afraid to. I am going to cut all saturated fat out of my diet and see what happens today

I get the same symptoms sometimes, but for me it's indigestion. Had investigations for gallstones and all clear. I'm a similar age to you and I only started to get this in the last few years. I think it's definitely related to what I eat though, I had it for the first time in ages just after christmas!

Caerulea · 16/01/2025 11:28

Could definitely be gallbladder issues & no they aren't reversible & no you wouldn't have caused them. However! Could be other things too so you need to go see your GP & they can run bloods, prod at you & get you an ultrasound 😊

That's not the way to investigate this OP. If it is gallbladder, it can come in waves and cycles. You can think you are fine for ages and -BAM- back it comes.

VexedofVirginiaWater · 16/01/2025 16:37

Yes - mine didn't go until I had my gallbladder out. It was fairly straighforward keyhole surgery and I was out the next day - others were out sooner. After that no problems.

Surgery ASAP. Rarely avoided. The list of things you can't eat grows. It's not reversible. It's either stones or sludge.

Go see the GP.

angelstread · 16/01/2025 19:13

Thanks. How long is the post op period for straightforward lap choly procedure, out of interest?

angelstread · 16/01/2025 19:15

I can't get a gp
Appointment until Feb 11. Is that too far away. I have not eaten any sat fat today and have had no nausea but a little discomfort after basic food eg toast and jam.
I can go to emergency dr tomorrow but feel like a fraud doing that especially on a Friday.

Highfivemum · 16/01/2025 19:18

Go to the docs tomorrow. I had gallstones and a blocked bile duct. It isn’t pleasant if it goes that far. Go and see the gp and get it sorted

I was off for 3 weeks but I had a standing up kind of job and wasn't the fittest person. Others were back sooner - I think 2 weeks. It was a while ago now, so maybe things have changed.

That seems a long time to wait for a GP appointment. I would go to the emergency doctor myself. When I didn't know what it was (and there was no Mumsnet) I ended up calling an ambulance it was so bad.

oneplus2is3 · 16/01/2025 19:21

My mum had these symptoms and after lots of trips to A&E and and eventual hospital admission she was diagnosed with diverticulitis. The burping was caused by severely impacted faeces all the way through the digestive system.

She was investigated for gallstones initially

shellyleppard · 16/01/2025 19:21

Definitely sounds like gallstones. I'm waiting for surgery for them

justasking111 · 16/01/2025 23:26

Similar symptoms can be gastritis of course.

ScribblingPixie · 17/01/2025 00:12

I'd avoid oils, even healthy ones, for now, not just saturated fat. And watch out for things like supermarket bread that have fats on their ingredient lists. Best things in my experience are small portions of eg porridge made with water with chopped banana, white fish with sweet potato and spinach, noodles with poached chicken breast and steamed greens. You want to calm your digestive system right down while you're waiting to get a diagnosis.
