Painful and constant pins and needles

Hello all,

Looking for some advice on how worried I should be. For the last couple of months I've been getting pins and needles in one or both arms at night. But it goes on for ages and nothing gets rid of them. It's getting worse. Last night I was up for three hours with very intense pins and needles in my right arm, usually sitting up and walking about for a few mins is enough to get rid of them but every time I led back down last night they came back within a minute or so.

I was assuming it was circulation issues but there's no reason I could find for it, not compressing my arm or shoulder in any way, no tight clothes etc...

It's happening more and more frequently now and it's got to most nights now, it's stopping me sleeping.

Obviously I've tried to get medical advice but the GP receptionist was reluctant to give me an appointment with a doctor for pins and needles (probably correctly tbf) but let me see a nurse practitioner who wasn't worried at all but it's definitely getting worse so I've had to insist on booking with an actual doctor. Although the appointment was nearly 4 weeks away (next week now!) im just worrying while waiting and wondered if anyone had experienced this and what the cause was?

Thanks for any advice offered

Thats a shame that you have to wait so long for a gp appointment.

Pins and needles was one of my symptoms shortly before I discovered I was anaemic, this was easily resolved with a short course of iron tablets.

Have you ever had your B12 levels checked? That "pins and needles" sensation is a common sign of low B12.

I definitely wouldn't panic, but you're smart to get it checked out.

Carpal tunnel or vitamin b12 deficiency would be most common causes.

You can get wrist splints for carpal tunnel or tablets, injections or eat food with higher b12 content for the other.
