Food item stuck in my oesophagus since last night. GP or A&E?

I seem to have a seed stuck in my oesophagus since dinner last night, so about 11 hours. I did all the things advised online, drank some coke,Cate something soft, ate some butter, drank some bicarb of soda but it's not shifted.

Although it is hard to tell if there is something there or perhaps I'm feeling damage causes by a sharp seed.

What should I do? Can my GP do anything? Or do I need to go to A&E?

This happened to me with a bit of carrot a few years ago. It's a horrible, very annoying feeling. I think it took a couple of days to go but all was fine.

Can’t believe people are recommending a GP or pharmacist! Crazy!

@soupfiend How long did it take?

This happened to me with a piece of orzo OP. It was there for 36 hours. I totally understand the annoying feeling of there being something ’there’. I tried gargling with salt water, drinking loads of coke and eating lots of bread. Nothing worked. I woke up on the second morning and it was gone so I guess it just went as my throat relaxed overnight. I hope yours goes soon.

I would suggest trying Gaviscon for now.

So I had something similar...... I ate a jacket straight out of microwave. Burnt and stuck in my throat. I immediately drank a pint of water and went to a and e. Was advised as I wasn't coughing nothing would be there, and it was a scratch or swelling. Had to drink more fluids, take anti inflammatory and keep eye on it for 48 hrs.

Did they see anything when they looked? I got a fish bone stuck and they pulled it out with some tweezer things. The first nurse didn’t see it but the second one did.

I had it with a sharp chip as a child. I think it got stuck, I washed it down but it scratched or certainly made itself known in the way down, and it felt like it was still there for two or three days. Then I forgot all about it.

@Clingfilmdefeatsme @SheldontheWonderSchlong please do not recommend to anyone to try to dislodge something stuck with crusty bread
or any other food item to push it down the throat. This is very very dangerous and could create a food bolus which is a life threatening situation blocking your airway…nothing going down nothing coming up. A bone stuck in your throat needs retrieved not “hopefully”pushed down by a hunk of bread.

@soupfiend How long did it take?

I cant remember, sorry that is unhelpful

I have a lot of sensations in my esophagus because I have silent reflux so I live with this sensation that something is there anyway so thats not helpful when something really does aggravate it

My teen daughter had this recently after eating popcorn and I assumed it would have just been a scratch as she could swallow, just with very sharp pain, but she said there was definitely something stuck as it also hurt to move her head side to side/up and down.

She drank hot chocolate to try and dissolve it but what worked was eating continuous small mouthfuls of buttery bread (only the soft bit). This seemed to dislodge it and push it down.

I imagine a pesky seed could flatten itself and be a bit more difficult to dislodge, but worth a go.

Update

It's gone this morning. Phew! No discomfort or pain at all today. When I had dinner yesterday it was very painful and I had to chew my food a lot before swallowing down one side of my throat so it bypassed the painful bit.

I don't know how it worked it's way out in the night. I had a big spoon of honey before I went to bed!
