recurrent fever in 15 mo

DS2 is 15 months old and for the past few months he has suffered from a recurrent fever. It's usually linked to a cold, but he gets really hot and is occasionally quite disturbed by it (it seems as if he's hallucinating, usually at night). He's not a particularly sweaty boy normally, much less so than his big brother when healthy in fact. But when he gets ill he just seems less able to regulate his temperature.

Is this something that children just grow out of once they're better able to regulate temperature, or should I be concerned?

I would make an appointment with your gp to talk over your concerns. It make be perfectly normal but best to put your mind at rest.

I would say this is not normal as a fever is a sign of an infection - I think you need to go to your GP

Thanks. CWE, the fevers are linked to infections, but usually just a cold, nothing I would normally go to the doctor with. But think I might take him along and discuss. Have just moved house so only just registered and haven't met the doc yet, but never mind.

meant might not make. good luck

Hmm, perhaps he is showing symptoms of a cold but there might be a teeny infection in there somewhere which is why it is flaring up. A cold may bring a slight rise in temp in some children, but not a high fever, certainly not to the level of hallucination. The fact that it is recurring is the issue - be a pushy Mum with the GP some are so reluctant to listen!

good luck
xx
