I've had about 10-12 so far this yr.
Some have been great big whoopers. Others, like the one that popped up today are tiny.

Why do I keep getting them?

My diet isn't that bad, maybe abit erratic but its not hideously unhealthy.
Obviously I'm tired but who isn't? I get between 6-7 hours per night so its not bad at all ( i could prob sleep for 20 though)

I've ahd so many over teh yrs that I now haven't really got a defined line where my top lip ends and my skin beings...it just kind of blurrs together.

Really strange - am 41 and developed coldsores for the 1st time this year - and yes, they just keep coming back - have been asking the same questions, LTH .

Thanks...

I wear carmex lip balm all the time, I'm not sure if its got any SPF in though.

I ended up trying a new anti-cold-sore thing this week, some special plasters. I normally use the goop, but I think it only works if you use it on the first day, when you get the tingle, and I started a day late.

Anyway, I had tingle on Thursday, sore on Friday, plaster on Friday, kept them on until this morning, when I realised there's no cold sore left to put them on!

Compeed patches. Utterly brilliant.

I've just got a prescription for a machine which zaps them. If I can I'll find it and come back with its name.

Hmm, it says they are linked to the menstrual cycle too, I get (and have got) horrific PMT so that might be part of it too.

I'm fed up with them TBH

I think the virus (?) stays in your body, I always get one in the same place the minute the sun shines. I've read about lemon balm being used to treat them. You can buy it in a lipbalm to wear everyday to help prevent them, but I don't know where!

Hiya have just checked my home remedies book. IUt says, if you suffer from more than 3 a year you may benefit from taking lysine 500mg a day. It also says, cola, chocolate, beer, peas, nuts, gelatin and wholegrain provide the essential amino acid taht the herpes virus needs to survive. So you are best to totally avoid them. It also says that the virus can be on your toothbrush and you are reinfecting yourself.

I suffer from coldsores and have actually found that when I have one, wait for this, this is good, preperation H gel is the best thing for it. It has numbing stuff in it, stuff in it to reduce the swelling and itching and I find that it goes away really quickly when I use it.

foxythesnowfox · 04/05/2008 20:39

That is a top tip about Prep H! I will definately try that one next time.

half the time I don't even eget the tingle though....or I've become so immune to teh feeling of them appearing that I don't know it shappening IYSWIM.

Where would I get lysine from?
