Restless leg syndrome

I’m wondering what people’s experiences are of restless leg syndrome and if anyone has any tips or thoughts how to deal with it? I think mine started during a period of depression quite a long time ago, and has never really left me. It seems a strange and mystifying symptom! Sometimes I find it sort of weirdly comforting. It only happens at night, when in bed, but I also wonder if it is actually stopping me from getting to sleep…

is there anything people do to manage it? Are you supposed to try not to give in to the compulsion to move your legs?

Mine wakes me up
at 3am . Magnesium spray dulls it but it’s a real nuisance

I had really painful restless legs for a number of years. Prescribed amitriptyline which helps a little.
I walked a lot in my job. When I joined the gym I jogged on treadmill for 10 minutes and had really sore legs that evening.
When I spoke to a trainer at the gym she explained I likely had shin splints and said I likely walk on my toes.
I go to gym regularly but avoid jogging do regular calf stretching exercises. My leg pain improved immediately.
Hope this helps.

I've had it since I was a kid so have some things that work for me but I have ADHD so don't know if they work because of that.
Tonic water with quinine in.
Magnesium spray
Heavy object on your legs, I use a folded weighted blanket but have used a heavy ish box before to calm it down.
The last one is very random but when it's unbearable I get my husband to slap the front of each calf and it gives me about 30 mins relief, I don't even know how I discovered it but it works for me!

I have it a lot and have been to the GP, they gave me tablets that worked but the side effects made me have to stop them
I use -

Magnesium tablets & spray
Eat at least one banana a day (potassium is good)
Drink lots of water - worse when dehydrated, keep water next to bed
Check iron & B12 levels. I’m a vegetarian and needed B12 injections
Compression socks when really bad, I had to wear them for flying and they worked really well as the air pressure makes it worse
Painkillers - ibuprofen & paracetamol together if particularly bad
Exercise is supposed to help but I still had it after I just climbed Snowdon 🤣
