2 years on from colonoscopy

I failed a routine over 55s fiit test in January 2023 and subsequently had a colonoscopy during which a single benign polyp was removed. I was told afterwards that I’d be referred back to the national screening programme to be re screened in 2 years.

Well, the 2 years is now up and I’m wondering if this means I’m just going to receive another fiit test in the post or whether I will be directly recalled for another colonoscopy. Does anyone have any experience?

I feel like I’d prefer to have another colonoscopy to be sure there are no new polyps - I’ve read there is a high chance of recurrence and that ones which might have been too small to detect during the first colonoscopy may now have grown. I realise that if I’m just sent another fiit test and don’t fail it, I won’t be offered a colonoscopy on the 2 week pathway again and I won’t know about any new polyps unless and until I fail another fiit test. This concerns me. If that’s the case, I may need to look into having one privately. Although having those done every 2 years prove costly.

I’m sure a lot of you may have been in the same boat so any thoughts anyone?

It should be another colonoscopy.
