Eye test

After an Eye test the optician referred my 5 year old son to the hospital as she was worried about his optic nerves been inflamed and we have jow had a letter with an appointment at the pedeatric opthomology department at the hospital in three weeks time , should I be worried ?

I’d be more worried if they had phoned and offered an immediate urgent appointment. I think it’s reassuring that they are happy for the appointment to be in a few weeks time, rather than within the next few days. Hard not to worry though I know.
I hope all turns out to be okay.

My daughter was 14 and was referred for the same thing a few years back k - when we got to hospital they put drops in her eyes looked for 2 minutes and said all fine - we then had 6 months appointments but all been ok since they just said it's normal for her - let us know how you get on xx

This, absolutely.

Often the disc is tilted or there's something to ignore called 'disc drusen', but for youngsters, it's just not worth being wrong.

For example, in my NHS trust area, suspected brain tumour is a same day referral. Like, the patient leaves the practice to go straight to A&E.
