Migraines - help!

Morning all,

I have suffered with migraines for years - since childhood, and have for the past few years had a good medication routine in place to manage these. Lately there has been an increase and I brought a TENS machine to help manage the pain and it worked brilliantly.

My TENS machine pads have now been discontinued rendering my machine useless. Has anyone here got a TENS machine that they use for migraine relief that they would recommend. I've looked online and there are so many!!

Any other recommendations for non-medication support of migraines would be great too! Medication wise, I'm currently on Topiramate daily as a prevention, 100mg Sumatriptan for an attack and 2.5mg Zolmatriptan for during my period (which is one long migraine!).

Thanks lovelies

I have always suffered with migraines and they have pretty much gone with me taking a high dose of evening primrose oil daily. I never would have believed it but it worked for me.

I’ve found spacemasks warming eye masks have helped me. I got one for free in a beauty kit and used it when I had a migraine as it was a pretty bright day and I wanted to block out the light. I found it helped ease things off more than just blocking the light would, and have purchased a few boxes since with good results. I mentioned it on a thread here (about the beauty box) and a few others said they had found it helped their migraines also.

I know you said non medication route, but my dd has had migraines since she was a child, maybe since birth, and recently did a migraine diary with a neurological dept of a nearby hospital. They have said as she has over 17 migraines days a month she has chronic migraines and has been put on the medication recently agreed by the NHS Atogepant (Aquipta). It's early days but it has really helped her.
I will mention the evening primrose oil to her too as a pp mentioned.

I hope someone has an alternative tens machine suggestion that will help you. I get migraines but nothing like my dd, I now mainly get the auras after previously having the light sensitivity and pain, but they still wipe me out for a day or so.

If you like TENS for your migraine then have a look at Cephaly which is basically TENS designed purely for migraine. I really liked my Cephaly and it has settings both for attacks and prevention.

You can easily reorder pads for it.

For other things:
If topiramate has worked for you up to a point, have your tried a higher dose?

If periods are one long migraine, do you need to have periods? On another migraine thread a lot of us had used the mini-pill to stop periods, but it was definitely a love-hate option as while lots of us loved it, some people had found that it made the migraine worse.
