Hello,
I've had ongoing pain around my appendix area for a few years. I've seen a GP a few times and they didn't think it was appendix related.
It is specifically in the same place but only when pressed. It feels like a sharp pain, almost like that trapped gas type pain . But I can't understand why it's only there. I've been worried that it's a faulty ileocecal valve and have decided to see a private specialist. NHS referrals are so long.

Does anyone have a good specialist in London or near?
Thank you

A referral to a specialist is one thing, but hasn’t your GP recommended any scans, blood tests, or other investigations? I think it’s important to get those done first before pursuing a private specialist appointment

Do you have any other gastric symptoms?
What investigations has your gp done?
Has anything related to your ovaries been ruled out?
If you are sure it’s gastric in nature, wouldn’t a gastroenterologist be a better first call rather than a surgeon? My crohns flares are most often (though not always) in the ileocaecal area, which leads to pain being in the same area appendix pain would be located. I’ve not needed a surgeon for it so far (touch wood) in 10 years of diagnosis, just my (amazing) gastroenterologist.

Thank you both. This is really helpful. I didn't know what kind of a specialist I'd need to be honest.
I've had a pelvic ultrasound a year ago. And bloods. A referral to st marks two years ago for rectal pain (now resolved) and fluctuations between constipation and loose stools.

No other real gastric symptoms other than this pain. A few years ago when I had chronic menopause symptoms I had an abdominal massage with a practitioner who went quite deep and I often wonder if my illeocaecol symptoms were triggered by that.
The consultant at St marks ran bloods, would chrons have been picked up through that?

After a year, it’s likely that new tests will be needed, as your condition may have changed. Specialists will almost always want up-to-date scans and blood work to guide their evaluation.

If I were you, I’d go back to your GP, request repeat tests, and make sure to stress out your symptoms, don’t let them send you off with nothing. You could also ask them for a private referral to ensure you see the right specialist.

Could it be diverticulitis? While there’s no specific blood test for it, it’s worth bringing up with your GP.

Thank you, I will do. It could be diverticulitis, my dad had that. My symptoms come and go, the pain isn't always there and it's only on palpation
