Dysphagia not improving

Hello. I wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar? I started with dysphagia at the start of December and got referred for endoscopy under the 2 week wait for suspected cancer. Had endoscopy and it was clear for cancer but I have a 3cm hiatus hernia and got put on PPI (lansoprazole). I’ve also seen ENT for a nasendoscopy which was clear for any abnormality. I’ve been taking lansopraazole for about 3 weeks now and still struggling to swallow food. Has anyone experienced similar and ever found out what is causing it? I’m not convinced that a hiatus hernia can cause me to struggle swallowing, but just following the advice of the endoscopist for now!

thank you

Assume they ruled out eosinophilic oesophagitis?

Where do you feel the blockage is? Chest level or throat level?

ppi sounds sensible.

Could it be achalasia? I imagine that could feel a bit like you’ve forgotten how to swallow.

@EvelynBeatrice I don't think so as the endoscopy had to be abandoned.

@RolaColaLola I very occasionally feel food hung in the chest but the feeling I have its throat area.

Hi, could it be silent reflux?
I've also had 2 previous tracheostomies (surgical) so my swallow is a mechanical fault aswell but mainly down to silent reflux.
SLT diagnosed me, but when I lost my swallow I was on thickener but now I'm on lanzoporole and gaviscon advanced ( has to be advance)
Id push for a fluoroscopy!!

Following the tests I mentioned below, I have now been diagnosed with achalasia. The muscles in my oesophagus have completely stopped working. I'm currently awaiting further tests to see if surgery is likely to do anything to help - nothing can restore the muscles now they've packed up, but they can operate on my stomach to potentially ease the passage of food. This is a useful resource - www.achalasia-action.org

Just wondering if you got to the bottom of this yet? I've had similar symptoms too! No idea what it is yet

I meant to come back to update.

I found out a few weeks ago that I have a short hiatus hernia which they weren't concerned about and the letter mentioned I'd be more prone to reflux.

It also said I have a tiny pharyngeal pouch towards the top and they have referred me to ENT. He did reiterate that it is tiny and to that effect, they may not do anything much about it.

Anyway, yesterday I got a letter to go to an ENT next week.
