Could someone tell me what the clot should look like I am worried I may have dry socket. It was my 1st upper molar on the left side and the hole is huge with about 4 tiny blackish clots and the rest is a yellowy white colour and the holes quite deep. I thought the clot should be dark red almost to the surface of the hole. Thinking should I make a trip to emergancy dentist tommorow??

lol My teeth are really stained anyhoo. when all this is settled think I will see the hygenist for scale and polish. Usually use litereen (sp?)for normal use. My mum recommended the corsadyl for gum healing.

Wish I could afford to have them all taken out and get implants put in. Have had none stop probs with my teeth since my eldest was born.

Thank you It's feeling better this morning I'm just keeping an eye on it but I haven't eaten yet.The dentist was really good and took x-rays before the tooth came out and said they looked ok. I think I may have had an abscess but in the last 6 weeks I have had 3 courses of antibiotics as I live with chronic sinusitis.

It's amazing really how such a small thing can cause so much pain and be a devil to get out, the dentist was wiping blood from the light, instrument tray etc by the end of it. At the end of last year I had a big toenail removed because it was ingrowing and that didn't hurt as much.

I hope everybody has a really good day and the healing process continues for all of us -good luck and best wishes.

MA I would definitely go back to eating none chewy foods for a couple of days, just to be on the safe side.

I had a root canal on a different tooth a few weeks ago as I had another abscess, which had caused my cheek to balloon (looked like the elephant man) and I told my dentist about niggles I had this side but she never checked it out. So then two weeks later I ended up outside my parents house sobbing in the car in need of pain killers. Went to emergency dentist who gave me antibiotics (never worked) and then went into see my own dentist gave me a course of amoxicillin (never worked) which resulted in this extraction as the pain was unbearable.

Really do sympathize with you x

I can sympathize with you as well. I hadn't been to the dentist for a number of years as a result I think I had developed a bit of a phobia but this dentist was brilliant as a result I felt relaxed which I think has made it easier to cope with. Saying that it was a difficult extraction and my gum looks a bit of a mess. At least she wiped the blood of my face and didn't let me travel home with it all round my mouth unlike a previous dentist. I know its ok to go back if I feel there is a problem but know it will take a while for it to heal so will see how it goes over the next few days.

Just going to have some porridge now which is my normal breakfast and read the paper.

I had one out last Friday. A bottom molar that had broken with a bit trapped against one of the facial nerves and another bit looking like it was stuck in my jaw grrr.

A surgeon did the op in the end and it's healed really nicely. I posted about the hole too because I was worried. If it helps this is the way it healed...

day 1-2 looked v black and bloody, kept bleeding a lot
day 3-5 some white stuff appeared on top of the clot and I was worried it was pus/food. Posted on here about it! Seems it was just part of the healing process. Still looked all clot like though.

day 7 for the first time, the gum starts to grow about and it stops looking like a crater and a bit more like a normal gum. I guess the white stuff was new skin/gum forming.

Today, 9 days later, it is starting to heal over very well - it's not flat yet, still a hole but the colour is better.

It's still too sensitive to eat food on - I accidentally crunched a nut in the hole and it was sore grr but other than that, I think we're nearly there.

I was also worried about dry socket but did all the salt water rinsing and that seemed to help. Hope it is ok for you and everyone!

Foxinsocks thank you for the information its really helped. I've justed eaten breakfast, cleaned my teeth and washed my mouth out and its feeling ok. There seems to be a lot of post tooth extraction people about at the moment. Hopefully we will all have a good day, will check back this afternoon. Take Care.

I know this is an old thread but thanks for the assurance @foxinsocks ... as I was getting anxious about my molar removal and having read your response has calmed me down a little ...
