Leg shorter than the other as an adult

Hi,

Does anyone suffer with leg length discrepancy and had it corrected as an adult? (I’ve had a look and a lot of posts are for babies/ children!)
I'm 26 and spotted the LLD in my left leg a few years ago- wasn’t too bad back then, occasionally pain and funny walk! Was given insoles to correct the difference.
the insoles were horrendous- I could barely get my feet in the shoe once they were in and weren’t suitable for all shoes.
now a few years later I’m finding the length difference has increased a lot (around 1.5 inches between each leg when I’ve tried to measure) even the insoles don’t correct it anymore
the pain is intense and constant- walking, running, exercise even lying in bed is causing bad pain in my hips.
Ive got an appointment next week with GP but wondering if anyone had it this bad and sorted it.
Ive seen online the option of surgery to fix it which I would consider as I’m concerned about the implications this will have on my hips in the future!

It might sound silly but have you had your pelvis alignment checked?
I had one leg officially shorter than the other for years until I had my pelvis realigned and lots of post alignment physio.

I have LLD . I suspect you will need a referral to a specialist and a CT scan to see if it is an actual discrepancy or a perceived misalignment because of your pelvis or hip.

If you need surgery to fix the issue you can normally only do it before arthritis has set in.

In my experience, it is best to get it checked out before the limp affects your back or leg muscles.

Good luck with the GP appointment.

@stayathomegardener Yes I did think this myself- it seems strange to have changed in length so much when I’m fully grown. I’m hoping the GP will refer me to have a better look at what could be causing it 🤞🏼 is it through the physio you had your pelvis realigned?

@Reginald123 yes will definitely be asking about this as the change is quite extreme in only a few years! Thank you- hoping no surgery will be needed 🫣

My Podiatrist noticed a leg discrepancy. My body hung down on one side literally. After trying insoles etc, he referred me to my doctor with instructions to get a scan of back as he had thought then it was possible mild scoliosis but he said he obviously wasn't qualified to diagnosis. I do have a hump at top of spine. He was right. Scan results show curve in spin. Only it's lower spine. Being sent for physio and if it doesn't help then surgery. As its impacting my right foot.

I went to a new osteopath.
I can recommend a fab one in Chester if that's local.

I have LLD. Diagnosed 20 years ago.
I suffered chronic back problems for years. Had every scan possible and the orthopaedic consultant basically said he couldn't find anything wrong so it must be psychosomatic.
I tried physio several times.
Eventually saw a new physio who asked me if I knew I had a 1cm LLD. I was mid 40s and couldn't understand how it wasn't found sooner. Possibly childbirth?
Anyway I use a talor heel raise in one shoe and it does the job. I never go barefoot and wear shoes indoors, can't usually wear sandals and definitely not flip flops.
