Elderly dad possible skin cancer

Dad's got a skin lesion and his gp sent for referral under the 2 week pathway. Mum went with him to appt. Apparently the consultant looked at it with some kind of lazor light and said he couldn't rule out cancer. He's got another appt at the hospital in a couple of weeks' time which I will take him too. However my parents are unsure what this is for. I'm a bit concerned about this - should I push them to find out? I can't think why another appt had been made unless it's for some kind of biopsy and wonder if he needs to prep for it?

My dad has just had similar. I would assume it's for a biopsy, but no prep needed. My dads was actually benign which surprised everyone including the medical professionals!

Thanks @StuffedFullOfFromage glad to hear your dad's was benign. Have worried myself on Google of course, reading that only more serious skin cancers go through on the 2 week pathway as usually very slow growing. Hoping fast tracked due to his age more than anything else 🤞

I think most are under the two week pathway to be honest. Even though dad's was huge and he is at high risk due to a number of other health conditions (and they were almost certain it was cancerous!), they weren't in a massive hurry.

The next appointment may be just a closer look with specialist appt, or it could be a biopsy. Either way, with the vast majority of skin lesions they are very treatable even if cancerous. So easier said than done I know, but try not to worry.

Thank you, that's really good to know. And amazing that your dad's was benign - that must have been a huge worry, but relief too.
