'Bad' cholesterol age 20 ?

My son just turned 20.

He has had 3 fasting cholesterol tests over the last 6m. Each have shown a chol/HDL ratio of: 7.4, which breaks down into: fasting cholesterol of: 6.7 mmol/L, fasting triglyceride of: 1.89 mmol/L, HDL cholesterol: 0.9 mmol/L, LDL cholesterol: 4.9 mmol/L.
(1st two tests very similar, this was last week)

He just had a blood count which is normal.

His BMI is: 24.7.
He doesn't use alcohol or drugs.

He had Left ventricle systolic disfunction Heart Failure in July & also Myocarditis (increased on his 2nd MRI in end Nov to four sections of his heart now affected). Currently on 1.25mg Bisopralol only.

His Father has high cholesterol & started on statins aged 50.
Would it be reasonable to ask for some medication for his cholesterol please ?

I think at your son's age I would be asking for a referral to a cardiovascular risk clinic. Your son has other heart issues so all these need to be taken into account with the cholesterol levels.

I would not be happy putting someone of this age and his history onto statins. It's not just a numbers issue.

I think you've posted a lot about your son and his difficult condition. It's hard for you both.

@Musicaltheatremum re my posting - I have yes as both his 'condition' & the almost complete lack of comms locally is ongoing. I appreciate that it might not be straightforward (& this is helpful to know, thank you) but I'd just like to have a brief discussion with his HCP.
I can't get a GP appt for 4 wks. His Consultant hides behind his Sec & not due to see him until end Feb when next MRI due. Meantime I request his blood results & get a printout which shows his cholesterol is not normal either.
No one on MN can 'tell me' of course but I've nowhere else to ask really.

This might sound really asinine, but have you put his test results and all the information you have into ChatGPT.

I did it recently for a series of blood tests from quite a few years and it was really helpful to be able to ask it all the questions I had. I also have cholesterol. And to ask it what questions I should ask the consultant.

@Wallywobbles no that's not asinine, & I'd not thought of that, so thank you for the suggestion. It's kind of crazy to have to tho (as no HCP appts available)
