Post colonoscopy gastroscopy bacterial infection

Hello, I welcome any advice, feedback please. I had a routine colonoscopy/ gastroscopy last Friday (one week ago) as referred by my GP, due to chronic anaemia. All went well, specialist said everything looked perfect. Came home at 4pm felt fine and after one hour started sneezing and had a constant runny nose. This went on for about 15 hours. Finally stopped Saturday 10am and my doctor said to come into the clinic if I develop a fever and take antihistamines for the next day or two. Finally the head cold settled down that day and spent the next two days resting. Thought by Monday I would be back to normal but started getting constant chills and that general unwell, sickly, flushed feeling. No fever but glassy eyed, chills and tired. Rested Monday but had to pop out to do some last minute Christmas shopping. Did not feel myself, similar feeling to getting over a bad flu. Saw my GP Christmas Eve, four days after the procedures and she said I should not be feeling unwell at this stage and I had a bacterial infection from the procedure and put me on 1000mg Amoxicillin twice daily. It is now Friday evening and after 4 days of antibiotics and I still feel unwell with chills and slight warm flushed unwell feeling and very tired. Also my stomach and throat still feels sore.
Did anyone have a similar reaction after those procedures, I’m assuming my body is trying to fight whatever bug I picked from either the scopes or iv. I’m seeing my GP tomorrow morning as I now feel like I am getting a UTI!
Apologies for this long post but feeling very unhappy as I did not even want to have these tests as apart from my low iron I am an healthy fit and in my early 50s. I am waiting for the sample results as I could have a gluten intolerance which may be causing the anaemia. Thank you!

I think it's relatively rare to contract an infection from these procedures so you've been incredibly unlucky. If you feel worse between now and your appointment tomorrow you will need to go to A&E. I think after 4 days of AB you should be starting to feel a bit better. You might need blood tests to establish precisely what type of bacteria it is for better targeted antibiotics.

Is it not just as likely that you’ve just by coincidence come down with some sort of infection around the time you had your scoping? There’s loads of nasties doing the rounds at the minute. If it’s something viral rather than bacterial the antibiotics won’t really have any effect on recovery, so it would just be a case of riding it out. Or maybe it’s been the early symptoms of your UTI, and the antibiotics aren’t the right ones for the infection. I hope you can get some answers and start to feel better soon💐

Tbh sounds like youve got a viral infection?

Bacterial infections going on that long would be producing a fever by now so I reckon by coincidence you've caught a virus which would explain why the antibiotics aren't working

I agree. Most likely you have caught a virus/the flu that is currently going around. Just coincidental timing.

Thanks for your advice everyone. I’m in Australia so apologies for not replying overnight! I’ve woken feeling the same but no worse, with no fever. It does not feel like a flu and I did get a blood test on Christmas Eve, so I’ll wait and see what my GP says this morning.
I didn’t mention in my post that I did contract a bacterial infection when I had an iron infusion a year ago. Similar unwell feeling with chills and slight fever that developed into a UTI. The antibiotics did work after a few days that time. Obviously just very unluckily with procedures. I was just wondering if this was a common occurrence from a colonoscopy/ gastroscopy.
Thank you!

Just a quick update my doctor said the first lot of antibiotics fixed the bacterial infection from hospital and then I developed UTI which may be a result of the procedures. So need another type of antibiotic. So hopefully everything is fixed up in the next day or two! Thank you!
