Damp house - chronic cough link?

We moved a few weeks ago to a rented house and it turns out there's quite a bad damp problem on a couple of the walls. I'm feeling very stupid/irresponsible for not having noticed this before we moved in and now very worried about the effect it might be having on my nearly-9 month old. He was ill before we moved with a sickness bug, which then took ages to clear up and has now had a chesty cough for about 6 weeks. It's getting slightly better but still hanging around and I'm convinced the damp is the reason. There's no mould and the walls don't feel too damp but the paint is blistered where it has come through in the past.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of the health effects of damp conditions? I'm feeling like we should move out immediately but don't know if I'm over-reacting. Also don't know whether the upheaval of another move is likely to be disturbing for the little one.

Any thoughts welcome

first off, get a dehumidifier - there are some here ranging in price from twenty five quid up to three hundred

Have a word with your HV and see what she says. Obviously damp is not going to be good for you, but I don't know how bad it is likely to be.

Good luck.
