You poor thing! I overdid it last Christmas - and after - and it eventually caught up with me. This year I am being a bit more sensible, although I can eat lots without being affected I just need to know when to rein it in. I hope you feel better soon.

If you don't already take or tried buscopan really helps .
It's an awful thing too have ,especially at Christmas.

I've had my gallbladder removed now but the only painkiller I took that even touched the pain was Naproxen. It was a life saver. They gave me Lansoprazol alongside but it irritated my stomach. Doc said it was ok to take the Naproxen when I needed to as long as I ate at the same time. Sorry you are feeling rubbish.

Piggywaspushed · 27/12/2024 06:49

Are you due for removal soon?

I had mine out but my attacks weren't triggered by food oddly (I've never known). I had a Christmas Day without my gallbladder this year and I was really anxious. Didn't drink but had all the types of food in moderation and all was fine. n fact my stomach felt better for putting proper food in it! There is light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully!

I'm on two months of omeprazole but have stopped taking it because I got pain in a band at the top of my stomach. I take buscopan too and low dose amitryptyline every so often which is supposed to help.

The three hot water bottles I got for Christmas might come in handy at some point.

I feel for you; horrible pain.

I ate a whole yule log and can of cream one Christmas; ended up with Cholecystitis next day and gall bladder was removed shortly afterwards. No more marzipan, goose, roasties for a while. Hope you feel better soon. Sending hug.

bloodredfeaturewall · 27/12/2024 14:16

thanks all. haven't tried buscopan yet as it's not crampy. feels swollen/bruised.
has been grumbling for years but this is a lot worse.

That's how mine felt as it progressed. I would advise that you get on the list to have it taken out. It's the best thing I've ever done. Ask your doctor for some good pain killers in the mean time. It doesn't get any better, unfortunately, but I found that Naproxen made it bearable for work and daily life. You have my sympathy.
