Belly button infection - TMI pic

Hi everyone,

Posting here as hopefully not that serious that could possibly see pharmacy or buy something somewhere. As GPs closed. I know its horrible but just with feeling ew

I’ve always been overweight but lost weight this year so don’t think that? and in past had occasional belly button (smell like this but maybe stronger this time or maybe not ie say if hot weather or working out and thought normal just shower and goes, it has has some colour in past when wiping (light greeny colour but again just goes)

this time though persisting and last few days there has been strong smell which is disgusting and aware of it. Usually dry with tissue but noticed when I do light green colour on tissue, it just seems also more sweaty lately. I did have gallbladder surgery back in April.
after drying yesterday (maybe was harsher than normal - its been feeling itchy since and redness)

i seen on previous forums sudocream? Can I put this internally with cotton bud and resolve on its own. As i’m caught if its fungal or bacterial (ie on one had discharge, smell but now the red and itchyness) I also worry if i use wrong course of something as would it then be resistant? Ie canesten

attached is pic and I had put sudocream on this morning after shower, so think the whiteness is that, no discharge of green shown. I know its gross and never had a real issue of this till now as usually clears
thanks everyone

Apply tea tree oil with a cotton bud, maybe twice a day, should clear it after a few days

fivebyfivebuffy · 25/12/2024 14:05

Mine did that years ago, thrush cream cleared it
Make sure to wash with gentle soap every shower, rinse and dry really well

FadedRed · 25/12/2024 14:09

Canesten (thrush cream) or Athlete’s foot cream should clear any fungal infection. Wash and dry twice a day, use a warm hairdryer (not hot!) to dry the area, before putting the cream on. When it’s healed, wash and dry carefully every day and maybe try some powder like Cuticura or baby powder, but be very sparing so as not to clog it.

NewBlueShaker · 25/12/2024 15:00

Thanks everyone. From what I’ve explaine doesn’t sound bacterial so more thrush like? As hopefully if I get some canesten will do job

I’ve been there mate… It’s cheesy dead skin and sweat that doesn’t dry out. I recommend using a q tip 3-4 times a day for a week or so with some isopropyl alcohol to gently clean it and allow it to dry out properly. Try not to wear anything tight and let it breathe. If you have any cream for athlete’s foot, put some of that in the bellybutton overnight for a couple of nights as well. It should help clear up any residual fungal infection. (Otherwise some Sudocreme, but it will
be less effective.)

Andtheworldwentwhite · 25/12/2024 15:12

Oh I have been there. I added sudocream and it was fine

TheyCantBurnUsAll · 25/12/2024 15:14

TCP will fix it

Gettingbysomehow · 25/12/2024 15:16

It's definitely a fungal infection. I have to be really careful and wash mine out everyday in the shower with pure soap ot it just goes horrible. It needs csnestan cream.

BusterGonad · 25/12/2024 15:26

It's fungal, forget sudocrem, tcp etc. It needs anti fungal cream.

temperance81 · 25/12/2024 19:08

Fungal infection. Thrush or athletes foot cream twice a day. Wash and dry the area before applying each time. Don't share towels. If you can allow to air dry.

InfoSecInTheCity · 25/12/2024 19:18

I am in the same boat at the moment, noticed it this morning, good clean with soap and water a couple of times a day and some canesthan cream will sort it out. Feels a lot less irritated already after just one dose.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 25/12/2024 20:13

Definitely fungal! You can get canesten or daktacort on Amazon

OpalMaker · 25/12/2024 20:17

I get this from time to time - I would have a shower and get it all cleaned and washed out with some hot water, then when you get out pat it dry with a towel, then carefully dry on a cool setting on the hairdryer, AND THEN - dry it out with a series of clean cotton buds - never put the same one back in, just keep using a different one until they’re coming out dry.
I then soak another clean cotton bud in tea tree oil and rub that around inside (stings a little bit), leave that for ten mins or so inside, and then use more clean cotton buds to dry it out again.

You can do this a few times over a few days and along with keeping it fastidiously dry, you should see a rapid improvement.

NewBlueShaker · 25/12/2024 21:53

If I get canesten cream (unsure if pharmacy will be back open) how long do you use it for? Is it twice a day? Ie so use after showering or put on before bed,

i’m so hoping can get pharmacy (
i take it sudocream won’t work on its own x

How many days would you say to use for? And just apply internally with cotton bud? Xx

You can get it in any supermarket, the stuff for Athletes foot, if they don't have canisten then any of the others will do. Work on the basis of using it for about a week, might be quicker but you want to keep using it for a day or 2 after it looks better to make sure any residual bits you don't see are gone too,

The cream will have instructions though follow those and all should be well.

DeathMetalMum · 25/12/2024 22:36

You may not actually need any cream. I get this occasionally. It happens when I don't fully dry my belly button. Usually a couple of days of cleaning with warm water and then drying thoroughly clears it up. I have had it when it's been itchy and red and it has cleared up without any cream.

But canestan or clotrimazole - same as canestan but cheaper will help if you feel it need it.

temperance81 · 26/12/2024 06:39

@NewBlueShaker until it dries up normally to clear it all 3/4 days.
