DS2 (10 months) has what I'm pretty sure is keratosis pilaris all over his cheeks, his arms and his legs. It popped up overnight in january and is getting worse and worse. Its bobbley skin (sometimes called chicken skin or goose bump skin). It looks a bit like acne.

Apparently lots of us have it somewhere on our bodies (although not to this extent and often we think its where we are just not exfoliating properly). PLEASE respond if you've found any remedies that work. Apparently some homeopathic ones have an effect. Its really bad. He's so beautiful but it looks awful and people don't want to touch him.

Aqueous cream made DS1 cry as it can sting. Try Unguentum M cream for moisturising, that is what we use - you can get a giant tub of it from the chemist. I use it on my detergent hands too.

I'll get some of that thanks

dh and I both have this really badly - pretty well over our whole bodies. Both dd1 has it on arms and dd2 has it on arms and legs. The only thing I have found that helps is a body cream with a high percentage of urea in it - have even used flexitol heel balm on my arms and it really helped. Not convinced it would be suitable for a baby though. I think it's something that will always be around but may become less of an issue as he gets bigger - my dd's both has it all over face and body when they were tiny but then it went for a while before re-appearing at around aged 2.

Oh my goodness, he's a stunner. Your gm is a nutter

Is this the sort of thing extra dietary oils might help with? Fish oil capsules perhaps?

mummyjaguar · 02/05/2008 15:40

Oo possibly. I didn't think about dietary supplements.

Actually it popped up very suddenly in january which is a couple of weeks after I stopped breastfeeding. I wonder whether there could be any link there too!

GM is a bit of a fruitcake

He looks lovely MJ! I'd give him a cuddle. I do empathise though - my dear little boy has severe eczema and it's a nightmare to keep under control.

best of luck,
Moose xx

Hiya, I know it's unusual but i've found simple baby shampoo to wash with and avon bronze after sun REALLY help my arms so much that after a week my skin is almost smooth. gotta be worth a try. don't know but maybe avon do a kids after sun?

Have you been recommended Calmurid cream? It treats dry scaley skin disorders. It contains urea & lactic acid which coincidentally are 2 of the treatments suggested for keratosis pilaris on Wiki. On children you can weaken with aqueas cream as it can sting a bit but it worth mentioning it to your gp.

MJ - my dd had this quite badly on her arms and on her face mainly quite close up to her hairline. She's 14 so is a bit conscious about it. She also has really sensitive skin and is prone to excema so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to put on it. Aqueous cream has always aggravated her excema and Aveeno which we do use on her excema doesn't seem to touch this. I was hoping that a decent summer would help.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 03/05/2008 09:23

has not had

paddycat · 05/05/2008 11:00

Am just going to resurrect this as I had these bumps quite badly on my arms till last year, and it made me v. self-conscious. I've found a v. gentle non-oily scrub a couple of times a week and Eucerin treatment lotion has improved it dramatically (available from boots). Don't use a loofah or an oily scrub as this will irritate and make the bumps red. Eucerin contains urea which someone else has mentioned and which breaks down and unblocks the bumps. Its expensive, but I now only use it a couple of times a week and not at all in the summer when it gets better anyway. Saggar Eucerin also make a face cream - I think hormones/puberty aggravates this as I don't get it when I'm pregnant? Google it and you can get a free sample on their website.

Have it a bit on my upper arms. I always find that sunshine helps

MrsTittleMouse · 05/05/2008 21:27

According to the Diet Doctors (not the best source I know ), omega 3 fatty acids are really good. So fish oils and flaxseed would be the way to go. It certainly couldn't hurt.

Yeni · 06/05/2008 16:02

I've had some success with sulphur soap.
