positive MRSA swab and sore throat , should I be taking anti biotics?

I have recurring MRSA. Mentioned this when seen by doctor for sore throat.
Recent swab shows MRSA back again.
GP phoned with result and is prescribing the usual wash and nasal cream.
I'm just a little concerned that I over emphasised that my throat is much better and down played the fact that I'm still aware of soreness in throat and irritation in ears.
I don't understand when colonisation becomes an infection.
Any advice?

It’s a difficult one. I keep getting repeated MRSA in my skin condition. They would give me oral antibiotics which would clear it for a bit but it would keep coming back.

A couple of years ago they tried to eradicate it by giving me the wash and nose cream alongside two different oral antibiotics. I had to have three clear swabs each a week apart before it was classed as eradicated. The first two were clear, but the third one showed MRSA. They repeated the whole course of treatment and all the swabs showed clear.

It wasn’t for long though and soon came back. My GP spoke to the microbiologist and said it wouldn’t be possible to eradicate it while I still had open sores and suggested long term antibiotics, which I’ve been on for over a year now.

I’m still having issues with it and have to have extra antibiotics often. I’m currently on Clindamycin which seems to clear it temporarily. The problem is I’m now resistant to a lot of antibiotics.

They tend to treat it if it’s more symptomatic.

Was it a throat swab that showed the MRSA? MRSA in the throat can be present as part of the colonisation but it can also cause repeated infections in those already colonised, so its whether your throat is already improving or not....GP might (?) consider that you just need to wait it out. Def worth asking them, as if you only treat the skin and nasal passages then the bacteria reservoir that's still in the throat will just reinfect you, i would have thought?

Well...I had two sites swabbed , nose and throat.
Frustratingly and although the swabs are marked, as previously they come back unidentified.
But as they were both positive it must be in my throat.
The throat isn't getting worse , it seems to have plateaued into low level discomfort
So yes , wait it out I think .
Probably ABs wouldn't work anyway ?

@Yourinmyspot that sounds a real pain. Open sores enough of a trial in themselves !

My blood tests usually show high lymphocytes , high white cell count ( not outside the range ) and my CRP was marked "abnormal '" last time. So maybe I have a low level chronic infection ?
