Hi all
Just wondering what you do personally to care for your digestive health? What measures do you take to avoid constipation? Are there things you do every day?
Thanks!

Good question.Following

I used to take fybogel daily and didn’t find it especially good. Since I started taking magnesium citrate things have been much better. I take double the recommended dose though

Just to add I eat healthily in general, but I’ve always been prone to constipation

I've been taking biomel. It's changed my life. That might sound dramatic but it's true. You can drink it ready made or buy the powder to sprinkle on food or make your own smoothies.

You can buy the drinks in M&S and Sainsburys and the powder in Boots. Or buy it all online via their website. Game changer 👍

Fermented foods - I make sauerkraut and have kefir mixed into my breakfast. There's lots more but I'm not keen on the taste.
Concentrate on fiber - range of veg, pulses, seeds and try to opt for whole grain carbs. If I have potatoes I'll leave the skin on, etc. Try to reduce processed meat.

Also lots of water for constipation.
I only ever get constipated when I've eaten more meat and bred/ refined carbs than usual.

eat few dry prunes/prune juice , i take probiotics every day and I’m fine and regular, I was suffering with constipation for many years

I take a heaped dessert spoonful of psyllium husk (as advised by gastro consultant) sprinkled over gluten-free bran (or multigrain) flakes every day.
I eat kefir and make sure I drink at least 2l of water each day: I don’t drink much else.
I try to take gentle exercise every day.
I take a bio-Kult or similar capsule every day (as recommended by gastro nurse in the Functional Bowel Health clinic). I vary which one.
I eat any fruit and veg which don’t give me “digestive discomfort” within a few hours, which is most of them.

I drink lots of water and herbal tea. Eat lots of salad and veg.

If I'm feeling a bit bunged up as eating unhealthy food I have a few days of taking psyllium husks in morning water.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol.

I take a lot of drugs for various health conditions and three of them cause constipation. It's a fine balance keeping things moving and if I deviate for even a day it all goes wrong. I will take laxatives if necessary but try to avoid.
Breakfast - allbran, seeds, milk. A big glass of prune juice. Lots of hot coffee (decaff) If I can't get prune juice I eat prunes but they don't work nearly as well as the juice. Nothing works as well as all bran even though it gives me gas. I've tried all kinds of high fibre breakfasts but nothing else works.
Water. Lots of it.
Big bowl of fruit each day plus lots of veg and salad.

I don't really suffer with anything bowel related but I do get stomach pains and a loose bowel movement shortly after eating certain veg, in particular cauliflowers, broccoli and sprouts. I still eat these but I'd avoid if I was having a meal out.
