Blood tests taking over a week?

I had some blood tests done last Thursday, the 5th December. I called this afternoon, a week later and the receptionist told me that the results haven’t “been released” yet so she couldn’t tell me. She said the doctor would be in contact if needed or I can try calling again. I’m assuming she meant the results haven’t been checked by a doctor yet, as surely the results would have been back from the lab by now.

I’ve had many blood tests done and I’ve never not had the results available after a full week. Is this normal?

I have health anxiety and I was starting to relax that no one had contacted me about the results as I assumed this meant they were fine. But now I’m worried if the results haven’t even been checked by a doctor then they could still be something wrong.

I am in wales so don’t have the app to look at the results myself.

If they have been processed they should be listed on nhs app. It simply may be the Gp has yet to review them and ours never give them put over the phone.

Just realised re app. Dh last ones took about a week to view.

Yeah we don’t have the app unfortunately here in wales that we can view test results on,

My doctors have a dedicated “results” telephone line which you can call between 1-4pm for your results. I just think it’s strange it’s been a week and no one has looked at them yet.

HbA1c can take a week to come back. If it was all listed as routine then that can delay them being processed a little, as urgent samples will be dealt with and reported first.

They’ll have gone back to the requesting GP, who may well be on leave or off sick. Often a duty doctor will pick up their results, but not always.

Once filed they’ll be available to view on the app. Give it a bit longer, it’s a bonkers busy time of year in primary care.

Not sure if I was tested for that, I’ve been having night sweats and I’ve got a lump on my jaw.

Yes it could be that they are busy, which is totally fine. I will call again tomorrow.

Depending on how your local hospital does things, you may be able to sign up for their patient portal (if they have one). That would enable you to see them once they are reported from the lab to the GP surgery.

At my local hospital (not Wales) there is a 48-hr embargo but then they appear. Means you're not waiting for the GP to review.
