Gallstones gallbladder and calculus cholecystitis help

HELP! I was taken into A & E with acute upper abdominal pain which, after CT and ultrasound, showed I had multiple stones and an infected gallbladder.

I quite naively assumed I'd have surgery to remove the gallbladder. However I was wrong. I was sent home with antibiotics and Buscopan and told to take paracetamol.

I was told to return the next day for another ultrasound which I duly did and it confirmed the stones. Once again I was sent home, with Oramorph this time (lifesaver, as the pain was excruciating).

I haven't been given any ongoing advice and I'm feeling feeling very lost and lonely.

What's everyone's experiences and is it worth going private for a removal?

TIA💜

I was told my stones are quite small do they won't be doing a removal. They just said to change my diet and hopefully they will pass naturally. If it gets worse then to come back.

I think they said mine were quite big but not causing an obstruction of the duct.

My fear is that I WILL get an obstruction. My Dad had pancreatitis and passed away following an obstruction in the duct so naturally I fear the worst!

Thanks for replying

You need a referral to the colorectal surgeons for consideration for surgery to remove your gall bladder, but they won’t do surgery while there is infection present because of the risk of spreading infection through your gut, which could be very dangerous. If you had an obstruction present, then the risk would be different. Ask your GP to refer you, and return to the hospital if your symptoms worsen, you get jaundiced, your urine goes dark brown and stools pale, or you have any signs of sepsis.

Thankyou! That's the most useful information I've had to date. Seriously, thanks.
Makes perfect sense re the infection so I'll go and see my GP for a referral. I've been so worried.
