DD has a cluster of spots behind her knee.

About a month ago she had 1 spot behind her knee. It looked a bit like a whitehead type more hard than soft iykwim. She now has about 10. They look like a cross between whitehead spots and skin tags. They are small - approx 1mm.

Any ideas what this could be? It is behind one knee only and nowhere else on her body.

possibly molloscum?

sarahsixtoes · 30/04/2008 17:22

?molluscum do they look like this?

Fullmoonfiend · 30/04/2008 17:28

Sounds very like molluscum contagiosum (sp?)
. They may spread and may become infected. But sadly, there's nothing the gp can do. Very common and spread by skin to skin contact. They can last for around a year.
Some people advocate squeezing hem (or pricking with sterile pin, and squeezing the cheese out. They will bleed but should clear up. Others advocate leaving them. Others spend a fortune on things like MAnuka honey.

In our house, we did resort to pricking - one ds was fine with it, one screamed the house down so we left them.

they spread with skin to skin contact, so behind the knee they will spread definitely. My dd2 had loads on her inner thighs which kept spreading, I pinched them off and they were gone in a week. I must admit I got hold of some anaesthetic cream so she didnt mind!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 30/04/2008 17:35

Yikes. Looks similar to that but not as aggressive if that makes sense. None are red/sore.

I went to the GP last week and had a trainee GP as mine was away. She had no idea and then suggested maybe the start of eczema but it doesnt look like that.

No way would DD let me fiddle with them so I think we'll have to leave it.

Should I go back to my normal GP? Is there anything they can do?

ds had them there. They went when he got cpox .

sarahsixtoes · 30/04/2008 17:37

no its a virus, it will go eventually but takes a while!

My DDs often have a bath together. Should I stop that? Or just be vigilant about towel sharing?
