Chicken Pox advice wanted!

DD1 arrived home from nursery yesterday and told me that her friend wasn't there as she has got "Picking Dots" and is all spotty.

Upon checking found out that friend in question has got Chicken Pox.

I'm not worried about her getting it - think they all end up with it at some point but I would like to know if anyone knows how long the incubation period is.

Would prefer her not to have it now as we have DD2 (4 months) and go on holiday on the 10th!

Any advice for treatment if said dots do appear?

Not a direct reply to your question, just a helpful tip.
We used bicarbonate of soda in the bath about teaspoon cleared them up super quick.

Lactocalamine is good too, more expensive but doesn't dry up and powder. Its got something in it that keeps it like a cream, and stays cool too. Also Piriton syrup can help stop the"itching" from inside, reduces the allergic type reaction, makes them drowsy to at bedtime.Keep nails short to prevent scratching, and if they'll tolerate it put socks over their hands at night to stop them scratching whilst asleep.

Thanks for the advice yorkiegal and Nursejo. No spots as yet so keeping fingers crossed!!!

Agree up to 21 days. Dd got it 16 days after exposure. Are you flying on holiday? If she does get it she won't be allowed to fly back, so check you have adequate insurance before you go.

nooonit · 01/05/2008 17:59

No, not flying - only venturing as far as Cornwall! Long way from "Up North" though.

Didn't realise that about flying though!
