I am insisting on seeing a GP abut my recent blood tests because I think I got a bit fobbed off by a PA looking at the results.
I went to the GP with a very bad stomach - this is an ongoing, cyclical thing so was not a one off, acute and unusual event. Amongst other things I was referred for a lipase test and FBC, Lipase was fine. The FBC came back as abnormal/borderline but the PA's message said 'you appear to have recently had a virus. Let us know if your symptoms continue. There is no need for a repeat test'. This didn't really fit why I had seen them in the first place! I just need to know what anyone else's feelings are about these results (which are not one offs - every FBC seems to find something!)
Hb concentration 122 ( range is 120 - 160)
haematocrit 0.35 below low reference limit
MCV 345
MCH 345
Red blood cell distribution width 13.6
Lymphocyte 3.41 (range is 1 to 3)
B12 211
I had a folate test reasonably recently and that was OK but only after several months of folic acid. No ferritin on this test.
I am a bit concerned because this is the second time in 4 months I have had raised lymphocytes and they seem unconcerned. Last time, they did retest.
Am I right to draw their attention to this? What sorts of things should they perhaps be considering?
