Adult tonsillectomy

I just wanted to post a positive experience.

I had mine in April 2024. I had a 3yo at the time and a demanding one at that. I put her in nursery full time for 2 weeks and my husband made plans with her on the weekend. Stocked the freezer with food before the op.

Yes, day by day there were some tough recovery days but pound the pain killers to the minute and it is so worth it. Eat whatever you can regularly.

It is December now and I have not been sick ONCE. I don't have to panic after being out or fear getting tonsillitis or pump antibiotics into my stomach regularly. Honestly, one of the best things I have ever done.

Anticipate mentally that there will be a bad day in recovery but you will also turn a corner completely randomly and it gets better.

I was very lucky not to have any complications.

I agree. I had mine over 10 years ago because each time I got tonsillitis, my psoriasis got worse.

But my life improved so much in so many other ways for things that I didn't realise were to do with the tonsils.

I slept better and didn't have to sleep with my hands propping my head up, now I realise I was keeping my airways open.

I could read a story book out loud without choking on my words (not every time but enough for it to have been a problem). I taught young children at the tiime)

Generally feeling much better in myself.

And no tonsillitis....that in itself was amazing.

I'm going to join in and say the same. My tonsillectomy at the age of 53 was one of the best decisions ever. It wasn't too pleasant at the time, but the difference is significant. I don't fear getting a cold, I'm not on frequent courses of antibiotics, and my overall health is far better. I've more energy and have never felt better.

Oh yes! You have both reminded me that my snoring has also been solved and my asthma has significantly improved!

I'm 10 days post op! Days 3-4 after surgery were so painful I can't describe. Still in pain now. But worth it. No regrets

Same, over thirty years ago for me. Whilst I dislike winter because of the weather, it is no longer a constant round of pus filled, swollen throat, high temperature, feeling awful and antibiotics until Springtime. In all that time, I have had only two serious winter illnesses. Best thing ever.

Not sure what the hell it is about day 4...! But wow.

However, if you already feel like it is worth it you are going to feel that even more.

Not only have I not had tonsillitis but also zero colds or any kind of illness really!

I just hope mine don't grow back.... apparently sometimes they do?! They better not as it cost me over £3k!

LastTimeLosingIt · 10/12/2024 00:39

Had mine done 15 years ago as an adult. Yes it was unpleasant. But would I do it again? Yes. I've had 15 years free of constant tonsil stones and nasty sore throats.
