Granulation tissue and granuloma on episiotomy site

Just a reminder that pain past 6 weeks postpartum needs to be evaluated. It’s so easy to put it off but because I did and dismissed the pain as part of my mild prolapse, I ended up with quite large granulomas. I just had them removed under a ga as silver nitrate would have taken many sessions and outweighed the out of pocket cost of a GA.

if you have pain particularly over episiotomy or tear sites they should be actually visualising the area. Being told it’s normal if they haven’t looked is not okay. Also if you have slimy discharge this is also a sign of granulation tissue.

I will post a nsfw photo so people can see what it looked like. I scoured the internet trying to figure out what the heck it was. They were also present inside as well. They weren’t this bad when I booked the procedure but got worse while I waited. This is right before the procedure. Please be kind to yourself and if you have these avoid intercourse. It made mine so much worse and we only did it a couple of times over 2 months. Happy to answer any questions 😊

Ouch OP. I hope you are feeling fully better now. I had never heard of this.

The doctor said I was very unlucky to have it this bad. Granulation tissue is relatively common at 1-4%. More common with instrumental births and first time mums - which I was both. But the granulomas had time to form because I let it go on too long. Lesson learned! Feeling much better after the surgery.

the pain and feeling of a tampon sticking out went away. If you have heaviness I’d think it’s more likely a prolapse. I had that also, it has gone away with regular kegals, time and avoiding anything that puts too much pressure on my pelvic floor.

Did you have any discharge after silver nitrate? I can see grey discharge but also white/yellow mucus. Not sure if this is part of the healing process or infection.
