MMR reaction or just coincidence and a virus?

My ds had his MMr last Tuesday and was fine after it - today he has woke up with really hot legs, hands and forehead, hasnt eaten hardly but drank alot, went to bed with goose bumps and shivering so ive calpoled to the hilt. Is this a normal MMR reaction a the doc said he probs just has a cold and would expect a temp to be day 10????

My dd had them seperate so im a bit out of tune with what to expect but he really is an unwell boy and quite grey looking.... Smiley at times with odd bursts of raspberry blowing and v sleepy.

Just went in to check him and he was playing peek a boo with his sheets and still awake well [ast his usual time!

Yes day ten it is common to get temperature etc. The nurse should have told you. You may get a tiny dose of mumps like symptoms a few weeks later, too. They are a live virus, unlike the hib etc., so you might expect a few symptoms. If calpol doesn't do the trick and he seems really poorly, and you are really worried, get him seen.

Common time to get a reaction iirc.

What is the site where the needle went in like?

Nappyzone · 29/04/2008 19:56

normal at site - slight teeny tiny yellow bruise but hardly seeable.... it is day 7 today and yes i remember her saying about reactions but was to busy flapping

He is asleep now - a bit warm to touch but not as hot as he was.

My dd had MMR last month and she too had high temperature which lasted a few days, and was not her usually self. IYKWIM
In fact she was probably off it for a couple of weeks. We also used calpol.
I hope your little one gets better soon.
It worried me to death.

Nappyzone · 29/04/2008 20:11

It is me but im a worry bag - we were at a and e at the weekend with him and are awaiting a referall with pediatric osteopath specialist as he has been limping for a few weeks now also and it has gotten worse with a noticeable open gate now instead of getting better - more worry!

Not wanting to wish time away but i cannot wait till hes nearer 3 lol!

I am rambling now lol!

They worry you like mad dont they.
I was concerned when my dd had the MMR as she had a bit of a runny nose.
But they said it was only if she had a fever they wouldnt do it, a cold was fine.

But I did feel very guilty, thinking I shoud have waited until she was 100%.
Little boy across from me also had same reaction.

My sisters little boy just had the pre school booster and it knocked him off his feet big time.
They insist it was coincidence and not the booster.

If your worried you have the right to get him checked out.
Did they give any indication what is wrong with his leg?

Nappyzone · 29/04/2008 20:30

No they x rayed his hip even though i thought it was his knee or ankle and told me about a condition they didnt think he had whereby his temp would go through the roof on the onset of his limping (you can see my worry now right) but i know its not the onset - anywyay this would be very serious and would need draining in an op - it also didnt show up on xray so were obv just trying to make me feel good about it all . My dd had guilliane barre syndrome at a v similar age so anything to do with wobbly walking sends of alarm bells in our house! They popped pads on him also to do bloods but also decided against this (by this time i was in pieces) as he was having a good happy day in all apart form his trip to a and e!

He is a busy boy so my sensible side tells me he has strained something but then my non rational side is just going mad!

Poor you can understand why your worrying.
Sorry to appear ignorant but dont know what guilliane barre syndrome is.
They are very active at this age my dd wobbles everywhere, getting confident by the day with the walking but still falling over.
Try to keep positive till you see the specialist.( Imagine easier said than done)

GB - it affects muscles causing painful cramps and spasms and lasts a couple of weeks - starts with limbs and moves inwards - worse case scenario we were told was her muscles working lungs would fail and she would have to be on a ventilator till it passed - thankfully we never got that bad but endured a nice fortnight in hospital whiel they monitored just in case. Very rare apparently and more common in old people! Also not runing in families so hopefully a one off..........

My ds is always ailing something from nursery! His MMr was delayed 5 months as it was as he was always ill! Oh the fun - good luck with your next one...
