I think they are a bit of a gimick, save your money and space and do a few sets of normal sit-ups every day.

mousemole · 29/04/2008 13:46

no better than sit ups

NotABanana · 29/04/2008 13:46

I thought it might help me if I had something to hold on to to pull myself up. My muscles are shot so I felt I needed some kind of support.

Okay. How do I do proper sit ups without making my stomach problems worse please?

If you have tummy probs then go and see your HV, who can give you some exercises.

Mine did this for me and the exercise sounded dull and ineffective, but as soon as i did them properly they really took effect.

I used to use one of them in the gym and they helped me, sometimes just having it on the floor reminds you to do it...

try the supermarket for cheaper though!

HTH!

Would rather not see the HV. I am sure I don't need to explain.

Don't mind the price of it but always good to save a bit. Any clues as to which supermarket does them?

Seen them in ASDA can't remember how much though!

What about a DVD - there's always a "Tummy" section...

My exercises were to kneel on hands and knees, do pelvic floor suck in thing and let tummy go in too, wait, then let go. The idea is that (as time goes on) when you let go, your tummy drops less!

Also v. good for pelvic floor

link on how to do situps on wiki, for you!

Don't forget that sometimes there can be a real prob after childbearing so if they really aren't right, go and see someone!

Good luck!

Thank you. Will give it a go.

Legoleia's suggestion for exercises on all fours is good if your pelvic floor is in a state of collapse (or prolapse).

Sit ups are not always the best idea for women because of the strain they put on your pelvic floor.

NotABanana · 29/04/2008 18:08

My pelvic floor seems okay.

From what I can remember I was told, my muscles separated when I was expecting my last baby but haven't gone back as they should. TBH my insides are pretty battered from my c-section and subsequent pregnancies. I know my stomach has attached itself to my womb wall.
