Really really sick of this problem. I've had rectocele surgery so in theory I should be able to go to the loo fully.

But unless I'm desperate - imagine coming home from a walk desperate for a poo, I race to the bathroom and one press on my perineum, and everything comes out, I always always have some retained stool.

I woke up this morning needing the loo. Sit down, feet on poo stool, all relaxed. Half the poo comes out then my pelvic floor clamps shut. I press on my perineum and the poo goes back the wrong way. Say for another 5 minutes blowing into a straw, moo-ING and all the other breathing stuff. Nothing.

So now I have a sore stomach until Nature gets going again later. This really impacts my life.

My poo is very soft, always perfect softness on Bristol chart, sometimes errs towards peanut butter/cowpat consistency. I drink 8 pints water and eat well over 30g of soluble and insoluble fibre daily, sometimes more like 40g.

The problem is not movement. I am not constipated. I need the loo daily. But I can't get it all out and it's driving me to distraction.

For those who are about to suggest it, I have recently had a prolapse repair.

I raise my legs, breathe, push on my perineum. And still no luck.

Have you tried glycerin suppositories? They work quickly to trigger emptying.

Also chia seeds, ground flax seeds?

I have had this problem for much of the last year but seem to have got it under control recently.
Diet wise I have always drunk lots of water and eaten lots of fibre plus daily prune juice. I was taking various laxatives for months.

So what changed? Double my morning coffee, extra hot, plus all bran and flax (I used to have oats). Go to the toilet at the very first hint of urge. Might be coincidence but it's all working properly ATM.

Thank you both for replying.

I did use suppositories post surgery but GP told me they can make things worse as they stop your normal functionung work.

Diet is very good. Flax and oats for brekkie. Kefir every day. Beans, lentils, soft cooked veg etc. 8 pints water.

Maybe I can try swapping oats for bran. I don't like sugar so not all bran but I will get some wheatgerm maybe.

Thank you!
