my dd has been vomitting since last wednesday and has had v.bad diahorrea(sp)
took her to doctors on fri said it was just a bug but to take her to out of hours doctor over weekend if she got worse.
on saturday she vomitted consistently through day took her to out of hours doc who said she had the noro virus and an ear infection. he gave us anti-biotics and advised us to put her on goats milk as its kinder to her stomach.
any way 24hrs passed and she seemed to be getting better until yesterday when she became again very lethargic and tired and last night started vomitting again very badly-do i take her back to the doctors?? im worried they'll think im an over-anxious mum, which i am but she's eaten nothing in a week her ribs and spine are starting to stick out and she seems no better.
what would you do??
sorry this is so long!

I would take her back tbh. Is she showing any signs of dehydration? How old is she? Old enough for rehydration drinks?
I think if this were my dd I would take her back.

I'd take her back if I were you, they should be getting her to do a smaplke for them at this stage just to find out what it is. There are viruses which can last for 10 days or more, but as she is vomiting and not able to keep the antibiotics down for the ear infections she should see the doctor anyway.

Poor love she sounds really run down by it all - how old is she?

I don't think your over anxious at all just concerned - if it were me I would phone GP - sometimes they will do a telephone consultation first with you before deciding whether to get you in (not easy with a vomiting child). Anyway for what its worth thats what I would do - hope she's better soon.

My DD (18mos) just had the same thing, she had the vomiting and diarrhoea for 8 days. I was told by my GP that the important thing is fluids, it doesn't matter if they are eating. My DD is thin anyway and her ribs and spine were sticking out, but she ate loads when better and regained the weight. The thing to look out for is dehydration, if she is not doing wet nappies, or if her skin doesn't spring back when you pinch it then take her back to the doctors. I found speaking to the duty doctor on the phone really reassuring, and better than taking her out of the house, although if you are worried about her ears it would help to have someone look at her!!

she's only one-she's always had a problem with her weight she's such a skinny little girl anyway. the doctor said for us to keep her fluids up but she sicks that up too! she lay in bed with us last night as she has to be propped up, we discovered lying her down makes her sick too, she just whimpered all night it was heartbreaking i couldn't help her.

Take her back your not over anxious she is probably dehydrated bless her

mylittlepudding · 29/04/2008 08:25

I'd get her seen. You are being sensible not overanxious. It's a nasty bug.

HereComeTheGirls · 29/04/2008 08:41

I would take her if she is unable to keep any fluids down through being sick!

SpacePuppy · 29/04/2008 09:14

Get her assessed in person. If anything they can give you reassurance that she is fine, as they can go down hill very quickly when they are so young.
