My son (6) has these lumps above his belly. Saw peads about it when he was younger and said by the time he’s 5 they should be gone, well they haven’t. He’s 7 next week and there are still very much there, if anything they have grown. She never actually stated what they were just that they’d be gone by the time he’s 5! 😩😩 I’m planning to take him back but does anyone have any idea of what they could be so I know what to expect? Thank you

Are they soft or hard? Do they feel like lumps under/in the skin that move around or attached?
I was wondering about hernias, but surely they wouldn't have just told you to wait a few years if it was.....?

There hard, they can move up and down slightly if you touch them. Yeah they mentioned hernias but then said as there’s 3 it’s unlikely 🤷🏻‍♀️ he had an inginual (sp?) hernia when he was 6 months old and had it removed, but these look different. They don’t hurt him or cause him any discomfort

They do actually look a bit like small epigastric hernias. I wonder if the GP was thinking of umbilical hernias which do usually resolve without surgery by age 5? (Unlike epigastric hernias). But equally it would be weird for it not to have been picked up by the surgeons repairing his other hernia so maybe not!

Could also be lipomas?

Valhalla17 · 25/11/2024 23:47

Why wouldn't you ask her what they were at the time?

As previous poster I think its maybe lipoma, but get it seen and don't stop until you have a proper answer.

I should add that not causing discomfort/that they are a bit movable etc is a good sign and leans more to the lipoma theory I think. Hopefully someone with firsthand knowledge comes along. .
