I'm in A&E - heart issues - any doctors here please?

What should I expect to happen? Any advice from medics or anyone who's experienced this please?

I came into A&E earlier with tachycardia (HR up to 170.at rest) which lasted about an hour - really, really scary, thought I was having a heart attack.

I previously had benign ectopic heartbeats but this was something else entirely and I have some chest pain with it. Have had Covid and another virus recently.

Not all the bloods are back yet but the rapid high HR has settled (although ectopics have ramped up since this episode).and they're talking about sending me home with Beta Blockers.

I'm wondering if they're talking about sending me home because the hospital is crammed rather than keeping me here for monitoring until the arrhythmias settle down

Or am I being overly concerned? I'm female and early 60's. Thanks for any advice.

@didntlikethis hey, did you find out what the tachycardia episode was on the holter? I’m going through this at the moment with the super fast heart beats for no reason, 160 this morning, so scary.

Yes, it was benign tachycardia. Most likely a post-viral reaction and I'm on the mend. The cardiologist told me it's classed as a 'nuisance' symptom, not dangerous or life-threatening.

So, try not to worry - there have been so many bugs around, you may have the same. The virus I had wasn't even that bad.

@didntlikethis thanks so much for replying! It woke me out a sleep yesterday morning lasted about 8 mins. Then this morning I woke up to take a drink and it started again it was so scary! I went to a&e to get checked over and everything looked fine but I’m scared it happens in the morning again. Glad you’re feeling better😊

I have had atrial fibrillation for some years. It is somewhat tedious and results in regular sojourns in A&E. I am on permanent beta blockers and they wipe me out and lower my mood so I am not wild about them and would stop them tomorrow if I could. I hope they manage to sort you out.

Thank you. I hope your A&E admissions are becoming less frequent now. Is it possible your cardiologist could review your medication to try to find something with fewer negative side-effects? Wishing you well. ♥️

Thank you. I've discovered certain things triggered it - including spicy food, simple carbs and stress. I had already given up caffeine and alcohol - they're obvious no-nos as both raise the heart rate.

I had SVT for years and would be in A and E with my heart rate over 250bpm, struggling to get it settle.

I went years without medication - they said it was one of those things and not dangerous unless it last =ed for 48_ hours at a time at that rate, I'm not sure I'd have coped that long - 2-3 hours was enough as it was so tiring.

In the end I had ablation which has helped massively.

I get the odd but every so often now, as well as ectopics -but no concerns,

I hope you get answers and help.
