Does this sound like aspiration?

I had awful non stop vomiting Saturday night through to Sunday morning, assumed it was something I ate. Have been feeling really dizzy ever since and have developed a a dry, persistent cough since. Googling "cough after vomit" brings up aspiration (inhaling a foreign substance into lungs)

111 online just said to contact GP but couldn't get through today as Monday always very busy. Has anyone had this before? Is it worth chasing up with the GP or will it clear on its own? Never had this before (I'm very very rarely sick thankfully!) Thank you for any advice Smile

I don't know but assuming you're generally fit and healthy, I'd google a bit more to see how likely it is for someone like yourself. I associate this with newborns, perhaps the elderly and other low muscle tone conditions, because usually we have pretty good safety mechanisms to prevent aspiation. Not to say it isn't possible. More likely repeated acid from vomiting has damaged your oesophagus and it needs to heal. Try cool, soothing drinks if you can and maybe ask GP to take a look in the first instance. I know in babies aspiration leads to infection, I assume it's the same in anyone so check your temperature. I'm no expert tho!

If you've aspirated vomit proper in to your lungs, you would have had explosive coughing at the time (as your airway tried to protect itself) and may develop a chest infection after - so the cough would be wet and rattly now and you'd be getting feverish etc.

More like the vomit has irritated the structures around the larynx / airway. Reflux causes the same. Dry, repetitive throat clearing and coughing.

Without having a chest x-ray you'll never know for sure. Really quite unlikely if you're usually fit and healthy, but not impossible.

As PP have said likely irritation from stomach acid causing the soreness. As for the dizziness may just be from being whacked out from being ill.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you all, I will see how I get on during the week but I'm hoping it'll clear up by itself. It's more the dizziness that's concerning me as it's not something I usually suffer with. As long as my DC don't catch whatever this is I'll be happy!
