Adult with temperature of 38.4, should I skip in-person team day?

Been feeling run down all weekend, woke up particularly shivery. Took my temperature a few times this morning, it's ranged between 38 and 38.4.

My team at work are normally remotely, but we have a monthly team day in our office. That's scheduled for tomorrow, with some Christmas social activities planned for afterwards (indoor mini golf and a meal).

I'm not feeling absolutely awful, but I do have a headache and a chesty cough. Given the above, would you skip the in-person day tomorrow? I would probably be able to take part BUT I would risk making other people sick, which is my main concern.

I should not go into the office if I've got a high-ish temperature, right?

No don't go in with a temperature.

cindertoffeeapple · 25/11/2024 11:18

Right. You need to skip it.

MrsSchnickelfritz · 25/11/2024 11:20

Definitely skip it - this time of year people will have all sorts of plàns that they may need to skip if they catch it from you.

Jellycats4life · 25/11/2024 11:21

You’re ill and you have a fever. Spare your colleagues.

Lougle · 25/11/2024 11:32

I think you need to wait until tomorrow and see how you are, really. You could be better, the same, or worse. If you're the same or worse, stay at home.

bigkidatheart · 25/11/2024 11:50

I would skip it, you don't know if there is someone there with underlying health issues - if they pick up your bug they could be ill past Christmas. Do you have any COVID tests?

This is coming from someone who is generally ill end Nov to the new year

MitochondriaUnited · 25/11/2024 11:56

Temperature, headache and a chesty cough?
No I wouldn’t go.

PastaFasool · 25/11/2024 11:56

@bigkidatheart I did do a Covid test this morning and that came up negative. A cough and fever big has been ripping through my kid's year at school.

i wouldn’t thank you for passing this on any time of the year but especially now - so you’re right to stay home

Stretchedresources · 25/11/2024 12:00

Miss it. Something is brewing.

CaptainRedbeardandbigbadbarry · 25/11/2024 12:01

Stay home. I am just recovering from major surgery and then sepsis. My recovery is slow and I am vulnerable to infection. I’d be well annoyed if you turned up and I caught it off you.
Feel better soon 🩷

MarvelJesus · 25/11/2024 12:01

Not only do you not want to pass it to colleagues, but you should be resting - you will lengthen your illness if you try to push through with a fever.

PastaFasool · 25/11/2024 12:37

Thanks all - I'll assume I'll skip going in. Not fair on everyone else to bring in a mystery illness just because I want to go to a Christmas social.

Bit gutted though - I organised the activities and meal, plus my colleagues are a nice bunch - rubbish timing!

Could you join in over Teams or something? Then you are not totally missing out

PastaFasool · 27/11/2024 10:36

Turns out I have flu. Felt progressively worse over Monday, still have a fever today although it's ever so slightly lower. Staying at home and not infecting others! And made a note to pay for a flu jab next year.
