I thought growing pains were an old wives tale. She seems to be half asleep, yet crying "my legs, my legs hurt" over and over again.

Can I DO anything?!

I used to get them as a child as well. Horrible memories.
My daughter also gets them. I give her Calpol and rub her legs.
My son has only had it twice. I give him Calpol and wrap cold cloths around his legs.
(Two very different siblings )

Had dd at her doctor app yest and they are sending us for blood tests next week. they don't think dd's pattern of leg pains are typical of growing pains. They are testing initially for aneamia, virus attacking the joints and types of arthirtis, although doctor does not beleive she is aneamic as her diet is absolutely great, they said if aneamia is present then it must be something else that is wrong with her and stopping her body absorbing iron, all very confusing and worrying

I used to get pains in my legs, all throughout childhood and into adolescence. They sound very similar to the OP's child. The pain was in the bones and painkillers didn't work - mostly comfort was the best thing for me.

My mum took me to the doctors numerous times and was told everything from growing pains to definitely not growing pains to fallen arches (which I don't have). No one ever did anything about it, not that there was much to be done probably, and I only ever get them now when I'm very tired and cold for long periods of time.

Hope your DD grows out of them soon Elizabeth

I had horrid growing pains just like this but no-one believed me!! well done for getting it checked out.

In my case, it was caused by Ehlers-danlos syndrome (AKA hypermobility syndrome). If the blood tests come up neg, you might want to consider that as a potential cause. Is your DD or anyone in your family hypermobile or double-jointed?

Mawma · 16/05/2008 13:27

Sanguine the tests for blood count etc came back neg. They are now looking at symptoms for all kinds of underlying things. Also neg for common arthritis but could be other types of arthiritis not picked up by blood tests.

Thats weird that you say about the hymobility syndrome, I was actually thinking about this the other week. I am very flexi and have been as a child I now have terrible problems with my spine which i have suffered for 10yrs. My dd who is nearly 5 does disco dancing and is very flexible doing splits, back bend etc she also does this thing where her fingers bend all the way back and they feel like elastic strings but i just thought she was either flexible like me or it was the fact she does dancing, could this be the cause?
