At what point do I crack and give dd the Amoxycillin sitting in the fridge?

GP said to 'hold off' as its probably viral, but gave me a script for it anyway because dd is prone to chest infections and has a restricted airway...makes everyone, me included, want to play safe.

She's had a temp three nights running, getting higher each evening - went up to 38.9 at 6pm at which point I gave her Calpol and its down to 38 (she's asleep).

Fairly ok during the day, with regular-ish Calpol, eating a bit, playing a lot. No other symptoms, just a red throat and occasional chesty cough (which she's had for weeks and weeks, tbh).

Would you start ABs now, or wait till tomorrow and see....?

She's 17 mos, btw, and has laryngomalacia (floppy larynx) and a history of bronchiolitis as wee babe.

ok, never mind, too late

She was coughing more, I took her temp again and it was back up to 39 - Amoxycillin has gone in, for better or worse.

I was just going to say, with her history I would play safe and start the ABs! Hope she feels better soon.

nobodysfool · 28/04/2008 19:24

For what it's worth i think you did the right thing.
Her poor litle body needs some help fighting this infection.
Hope she feels better really soon.

princessmel · 28/04/2008 19:25

I would have given it to her too
Hope's she's better soon.

I agree, you can't be too careful with her history. Nice to hear people giving it thought before resorting to ABs though.

Hope it has her feeling better soon x

Thank you all - wasn't expecting any responses seeing as I'd answered my own initial ?

She's sleeping peacefully, put her into a summer sleeping bag with no PJ bottoms on and window open...that, plus meds, seems to have done the trick for now.

Thanks again for taking the time
