Fifteen year old with PMT - help required

Just been to see the GP because my 15 year old DD suffers from PMT in a bad way - feels like no one likes her, very moody etc - and her class teacher mentioned it to my husband at a parents meeting suggesting we saw our GP to discuss the possibility of putting her on a low dose form of the pill etc.

Just been to see GP - who thought it was NOT a good idea but kept saying "I think that was a very strange conversation", "I think it is very strange that the school should say something like that, especially to your husband" ...

I have come away feeling like an idiot. I didn't think it was that strange a thing for the school to say - do you?

It seems a bit weird to me.
How do they know it is pMT?

shortcake · 28/04/2008 15:12

well - I guess it occurs monthly and she becomes very morose adn moody for a few days. She also goes to see the matron because she gets stomach cramps etc. It is a very small school so the teachers probably notice these things more than in a big school.

Maybe the teacher sees the pattern, maybe she recognises it because she suffered herself and wishes someone had done the same for her. Cant see why the doc would find it wierd, I was on the pill at 13! I was very sporty and it was hard work doing all the activities with a heavy period, I didnt use tampons, and it was ok with me, I havent grown a hairy stash or anything

The doc sounds a bit of a wally, should appreciate a professional looking out for one of their pupils.

I was put on pill for terrible periods/PMT at 15 years old. My mother took me to GP.

It helped a bit.

My GP has a manner which makes a straightforward question seem completely unreasonable! I left feeling about 2 inches tall and apologising for wasting her time!!

Another GP?

shortcake,
I remember when I was younger having the most awful periods moody/heavy/painful and I went on the pill and thought it was wonderful. I would advise you that if G.P. no help take your girl to The Family Planning clinic near you. You will be seen in confidence and they are more sympathetic.
