Side sleeper neck support pillow

Im approaching 40, and everything is just starting to ache… 😒 A few weeks back I pulled my neck turning over in bed and since then I wake up with a super stiff neck.

I’m looking for a good support pillow (i’m mostly a side sleeper). The Tempur one has such good reviews, but obviously the price is a little high. I’ll fork it out if I can’t find a more affordable solution…

anyone have any recommendations?

I have wasted so much money on side sleeper pillows of varying costs and none actually helped me at all. I have found the best thing is normal pillows and a towel rolled into a cylinder shape put between my neck and the edge of the pillow.

I have a bad neck (whiplash) and have gone through dozens of neck support pillows. Pillows that look identical are somehow completely different. So I wouldn't start with an expensive one you will probably end up buying several. Maybe try Dunelm. Are you married/partnered? Get someone to photograph you lying on your side with various of the pillows you already have and use the one/two that keep your head and spine in line. Having said that the first thing to do would be get some treatment for your neck. A strained muscle might not need a new pillow. Massage, Chiropractor, ibuprofen gel, stretching, hot wheat bag, ice pack?

The rolled towel idea is really good. I had this at your age, and went through all the pillows. Try John Lewis, my current one is from there. Too hard is as bad as too soft ime. The other thing is mattresses. At this age, as you say, everything gets achy. Sorry to tell you, this goes on for years. For years. 😕
If you want my advice, it's don't go for the most expensive. We bought eye wateringly expensive mattresses only to find them too hard/hot.
My solution has been a softer cheaper pocket sprung mattress with a good topper. Supportive enough, but not too firm. Oh, and ibuprofen.
Good luck.

I find mine really beneficial. I suffer neck and shoulder pain (also have long standing disability). If I remember correctly a family recommended a company called Groove and I found them reasonably priced and good to deal with.
Good luck

@EdgeofSeventy I looked at Groove as an option, but i’ve gone for the Kally Sleep one. They sell it in m&s and john lewis, but i’ve purchased it direct from Kally as you get a free trial.

@helibirdcomp My neck is better now, it’s just stiff in the morning from lack of sleep support. I’ve been meaning to get a more supportive pillow for a while, i just left it too late. I practice, so stretching is part of my daily routine.

Totally get where you're coming from—once I hit my late 30s, the random aches really started showing up too! 😅 I’m a side sleeper as well and had a stiff neck issue a few months ago after twisting weird in my sleep.
I’ve tried a few pillows and honestly, what helped the most was switching to a body pillow side sleeper style. It supports your neck, shoulders, and hips all in one go, and keeps your spine better aligned through the night. It’s not just for pregnancy—anyone who sleeps on their side can benefit.
I still use a regular neck pillow too, but the body pillow made a huge difference overall. Might be worth a try before splurging on the Tempur! Hope you find something comfy soon
