Is it still called a hysterectomy these days????

anyway, on another thread about the pill which i rpesently take but i DONT want any more children..dp runs away when i mention the snip, so is it still a major op for me to be 'done'???? and can it be reversed(im 99.9% sure i dont want more)

and if it is non reversable and a big op still, then what does the snip involve and how can i talk dp into having one?

you are thinking of sterilisation, you would not have a hysterectomy .

i would not consider sterilisation for you or DH if there is a chance you would want it reversing

thikn about the mirena coil, it is very , very good contraception, but can be removed if you do want another baby.

it is more of a big deal for a woman to have her tubes tied / be sterilised than for a man to have a vasectomy

I think you mean sterilisation - it involves clipping or tying off your tubes so the eggs can't get through.

A hysterectomy is much more serious - removing your womb.

It's still a major op - general anaesthetic, a week or so to recover. And not reversible, though you might still be able to conceive with IVF afterwards.

They're starting trials on a much less invasive one though - news.scotsman.com/health/39Female-snip39--to-transform.4024376.jp - which I'm keeping my eye on!

The snip (vasectomy) is much less invasive - day surgery, just a bit uncomfortable for a day or 2. But a lot of men are very worried about their bits, so not sure how you'd convince him to get it done.

I've got the implant - lasts for 3 years at a time. I'll be 41 when it's due to come out so I can think about the op then (or they'll have perfected the laparoscopic teqchnique by then)

Amum - I wouldn't like to go through that - it is too similar to having a coil fitted and you still have to use other contraception for another 3 months
At least after sterilisation I'd have a reason for dh to keep away from me for a week or so

ROSEgarden · 28/04/2008 13:49

yes, sterilization, sorry for my ignorance..i dont want the 'chemical' anmore, so implants would be same as pill, dp has not said no, just changes subject but as i dont want more children, i dont want to have to take pill forever so i only have two options really!, i dont want to have to worry every month if i had coil or similar fitted.
