Wisdom tooth removal

I am having 1 wisdom tooth removed next Thursday under general anesthetic. They are taking the top bit of the tooth only because of the nerve. I am really worried about recovery as I have a friend's birthday booked the following weekend (10 days later) and going to Edinburgh 3 weeks after. How long was your recovery? How long until you could eat normal?

You’ll be fine in no time.

So they aren't pulling the whole thing??
You'll be fine that day/next day

I had two impacted ones removed fully under local anaesthetic about 12 years ago had 5 days of pain /struggling to eat (it seemed to bleed every time I ate). I'd say the first 48 hours were the worst and then I slowly improved. I was a single parent to 3 (aged 3-7) at the time and was looking after them from the day afterwards.

You’ll be fine by then as long as you follow post op guidance! I had 3 out under a general and two of them hadn’t erupted when they decided to remove. The first 24 hours post general I was sleepy and groggy and it took a few days to be able to eat again and feel ok. I think I did have swelling for a good few days though to my cheeks

Unfortunately it is worse than having the whole tooth removed but that doesn’t mean it won’t go smoothly for you. I had it done last Monday but under sedation. The last week has been awful with neuralgia but I’m starting to come out of it now. I don’t believe the neuralgia gets everyone, though so hopefully you’ll be fine.

It’s actually much worse.

Is it an upper tooth or a lower one? Removal of upper wisdom teeth is much easier, apparently - I had one extracted recently and was absolutely fine the next day.

What's neurologia? Do you think I should delay it? I don't want it to ruin my holiday

It’s in case they touch or bruise the nerve, you end up with terrible headaches, tooth, jaw pain, pain in the ear, down the neck, basically wherever the nerve travels. In my case, though, the tooth is extremely close, hence the colonoscopy in the first place. I wouldn’t delay your holiday but in the worst case scenario be prepared for still being in pain for your friend’s birthday. That is worst case, though. Plenty of people are only in pain for a few days.

Thanks so much
When could you eat normal again? How comes your nerve was damaged? I thought that was the whole point of a crownoscopy (whatever is called)

I’m praying they haven’t damaged it and it’s just bruised/ touched / generally traumatised 🤣 I don’t think they have because it is getting better now. It took about 5 days before I could eat proper solids (though at the moment still only in one side of my mouth) purely because my mouth has been so swollen that I haven’t been able to open it much. The swelling has gone right down in the last day or so so hopefully in next few days I can eat properly.

No they can only take the crown off of it because of the nerve
