Why are my feet suddenly so stiff in the morning?!

When I wake up in the morning both my feet are so stiff, when I stand up it take several minutes before I feel totally comfortable. No know health problems, I'm only 33 and currently breastfeeding if that means anything. This has happened over the last 3 weeks every morning. Never happened before.
Anyone else have this?!

Plantar fascitis is a culprit as is arthritis but probably not at your age. Dehydration and a lack of some nutrients can also cause this which is far more likely if you are bf. Keep a large bottle of water to drink from during those night feeds and take a multivitamin if you aren't already. I would do some 'good toes / naughty toes' IE point and flex them maybe 10 times and do some ankle circles before you get out of bed to get the blood flowing.

Yes I had this postpartum, I’m a similar age to you and I was hobbling around in the morning ! I ended up speaking to my GP who advised it was normal and linked to hormonal changes. I had aches and pains in my knees and other joints, it was quite concerning. But it did subside, particularly when I stopped breastfeeding which may or may not have been a coincidence.

I agree with the previous poster about staying hydrated and doing some exercises in the morning and before going to bed. I’m just now remembering that my hands used to get stiff too and I had to wear splints! The joys of postpartum! I’ve spoken to lots of other women about this who’ve described similar issues. Hopefully this improves for you!

I had this when I was breastfeeding, it went away as soon as I stopped around 5/6 months. It's likely due to hormone changes.

This is so interesting!! I have been quite lax with my vitamins I must admit. Thank you for all the advice everyone ❤️

Another one here who had it when breastfeeding. Lasted a few months (but not the whole time I was breastfeeding).

I had it when breastfeeding my second child - I took vitamin d and that seemed to sort it

I can feel every bone in both feet when I get up in the night or stand in the morming, it's agonising - but I'm 52 and definitely not post-partum or breastfeeding!

I've had it for about 18 months. I had chronic plantar fasciitis in one foot for 5 years but had surgery for it eventually and it's 75% resolved. I could blame this bilateral pain on the extra bit of weight I've put on, except I also have very stiff, painful hands, elbows and wrists in the night, and pain in my hips/sacroiliac joints sometimes wakes me in the night.

Once I've taken a few steps and been up for about 5 mins, it's completely gone and I walk my dogs for 2-3 miles every morning pain-free.

I did try raising it with my GP - twice - but they put it down to menopause.

I’m 31 and currently ebf and have had the exact same thing for the last few months! So pleased to read other women get this! One of those weird but totally normal things eh? Thanks for posting OP - I keep forgetting to!

Breastfeeding and menopause have similar hormones so maybe that's why?!

So strange, I breastfeed my first child for 18 months and this one for 8 so far and only just started. So interesting to hear other similar stories! Definitely upping my vitamin d! Thanks everyone.
