Symptoms of piles?

Jess38 · 18/11/2024 21:51

I've been diagnosed with internal piles after a recent bleed (No pain or initial symptoms) but I now (a few days after the bleed) I have other symptoms which I didn't think were related to the piles so would love to hear from others if they experienced this.

  • lower left abdominal gurgling, quite loud
  • low (coccyx level) back pain, particularly when bending forward

Anyone? And if this isn't the piles, what could it be?

look into ..Sigmoidal/Rectal Prolapse (Early Stage)

Can cause hemorrhoids as first presentation
Location explains left-sided gurgling (sigmoid movement)
Forward bending increases intra-abdominal pressure, potentially causing pain where ligamental support is strained
Progressive development of symptoms makes anatomical sense

  1. Rectocele (Early/Mild)

Can present initially with hemorrhoids
Changes in rectal/sigmoidal position can cause gurgling
Pain on forward bending due to increased pressure on weakened supportive tissues
Explains anatomical connection between all symptoms

  1. Pelvic Floor Descent

Can lead to hemorrhoid development
Altered bowel position causes gurgling
Pain on forward bending due to increased strain on supporting structures

@RedHotWings thank you for this. I'd never heard of it but it is interesting how it fits...

I have been diagnosed with having a mild vaginal prolapse and strangely enough, the day before the bleed, I felt a dragging/pulling sensation around my vagina which I sometimes experience due to my vaginal prolapse. Do you know if there's a link between the rectocele and vaginal prolapse?

Yes, there is definitely a connection between vaginal prolapse and rectocele, and your experience of the dragging sensation followed by these symptoms makes a lot of sense.

The vagina and rectum are supported by the same network of connective tissues and muscles in your pelvic floor. This is why it's quite common for women to experience different types of prolapse simultaneously or progressively.

The dragging sensation you felt before the bleeding is particularly relevant. When pelvic support weakens, it can create this characteristic dragging feeling. The timing suggests that there might have been a change in the support structures affecting both areas, resulting in increased pressure. This could explain why you experienced hemorrhoid bleeding shortly after, as changes in one area can affect the blood flow and pressure in nearby tissues.

Your description of lower left abdominal gurgling and pain when bending forward also fits as bending forward can increase the pressure on these already compromised tissues. The gurgling might be happening because the rectum's position has been slightly altered by these support changes, affecting how gas and contents move through that area.

@RedHotWings thank you for all this. Can I ask if you have experienced this yourself? You seem very knowledgeable on the subject! I have another GP appointment soon as the gurgling was bothering me but I will also mention the prolapse when I am there. Will they be able to identify a rectal prolapse if its in early stages?
