And if so, why doesnt it say that, is there a reason?

I notice there is another tub of Dr Oetkar baking powder which is gluten free, its nearly 3x the price, so why isnt the one pictured sold as gluten free?

Because they'd have to ensure it and certify it, which costs money. For example, it could be made of GF ingredients but made in the same factory as gluten-containing products so there is a cross-contamination possibility.

Sainsbury's usually say on the pack if something isn't suitable due to the manufacturing methods (ie cross contamination)

Yes it is. Rice flour is the bulking agent rather than wheat flour. By law any gluten has to be declared.

I use it regularly for baking for coeliac family members

KickHimInTheCrotch · 18/11/2024 21:14

Yes it's gluten free. No gluten in the ingredients and no "may contain" warning so it's safe.

There are literally thousands of products in the supermarkets that are gluten free but don't announce it on the packaging. I shop for my coeliac DC and the majority of what we buy is just quietly gluten free. The items in the specialist section of the supermarket are heavily marked up.

Looks like it is.
My query would be is it produced in a flour containing factory.
