Is this normal

So the other day I was taken to hospital, whilst waiting on Dr I was sitting on the bed in what's called the W
Anyways dr comes, sees me sitting like that and is shocked.... I tried to sit normally but was so uncomfortable and soon ended up back into the W
I always sit in that position and everyone says it's weird but now the drs response has me thinking they're right

Are you hyper mobile? If I got into that position I doubt I’d get out of it again!

I am yeah

Just asking as never thought about it till the Dr was shocked about it 😂 I'm 39, 3 kids and even sat that way throughout each pregnancy

I sit like that if I sit on the floor 56.
Not sure I'd sit like that on a bed though ?

I sit like that on the floor. It’s supposed to be unusual in adults. I probably wouldn’t sit like that in hospital though

I've been told that my style of sitting in a chair (feet up, in a ball) could indicate neurodiversity. At nearly seventy, that doesn't really signify anything for me.
But I’ve always found it really difficult and uncomfortable sitting “normally” in a chair, dining or armchair and, sod it, I will be comfortable!
(I have managed a W in the past but it”s a bit beyond my knees now.)

I love sitting in the W position but I am very hypermobile and have a muscle condition. My friend with Cerebral Palsy also loves it. I know it is not meant to be particularly good for you but it gives me my best stability and postural control!

I’m sitting like that now and I’m 46 and definitely not hypermobile. My six year old told me off a few weeks ago and said her teacher told them it would damage their hips. I’ve always sat like this and find it very comfortable!

It's a style adopted by children when they don't have a very strong core, as the W shape helps stabilise the upper body. We are meant to discourage it as a sitting position in toddlers.

I can sit in that position and have done since childhood and definitely not hypermobile. I also have good core strength (have done regular yoga for the last 7 years). My husband always comments it's a strange position but it feels comfy to me if I have to sit on the floor for any reason.

Sitting like that can be a sign of hip dysplasia. I sit like that a lot because it’s very comfortable for me. When I was in my early 30s my hips got quite painful when I was lying on my side. I didn’t think much of it and assumed it was the beginnings of arthritis. Fast forward a few years the pain got very bad and I was diagnosed with dysplasia which now can’t be corrected because of my age.
So sitting like that might be fine. Or it might be a sign that your hip joints are wonky. But if you start getting hip pain definitely see a doctor asap. I’m in constant pain now and will be until it gets severe enough for an early hip replacement. But it could have been corrected if I was 35 or under.

Sitting like that doesn’t cause the condition (it’s a birth defect), but it is an indicator.

I’m in my thirties and this is my preferred position too! I thought it was to do with being hypermobile my legs feel too heavy to dangle.
