Mirena Coil and acne!!!

I had a Mirena Coil fitted in August and ever since then I have been suffering with terrible acne. I have never had perfect skin and did suffer a little when I was on the pill, but it has got a lot worse since I had my coil fitted. Is anyone else suffering like I am? Is it likely to get better? I do hope so as I may have to have it taken out because of this!

platinum1, also wondering how you're getting on? I've a traditional coil and certainly didn't have any problems like you describe, just felt a bit "shaky" after insertion, wasn't really painful at all. I have heard that it is possible to perforate the uterus with the coil if not put in well, hope this isn't what happened with you.

Lindy get your husband in for a vasectomy. there is no such thing as a good sterilization for women in my view Mine brought with it a premature menopause that I have been going through for ten years. I know a woman who had complete hysterectomy and she looks ten years older dry skin, aches and pains because her body went crashing into menopause and HRT didnt suit her. I am having my mirena coil out tommorrow because I have turned into a constantly premenstrual monster who shouts at her family and who nearly threw herself out of a moving car at the weekend due to row with husband. Weepy, soon up, soon down. Shiny face full of acne. not constantly depressed, alright one second. suicidal the next. Yes my periods are lighter but what is the point of that if I am not around to have them. No get him done! Or try a cap I tried one with added spermicide. If you cant get the hang of it , you can always throw it at him!

I had a mirena coil years ago and although it was brilliant as a contraceptive and banished nmy periods for 3 years, I had to get rid of it. I had awful acne round my mouth and had to get topical antibiotics - felt like a greasy teenager picking up my presciption! BY the end of the three years I had constant thrush and always felt fluish and moody. Took me ages to link all this with the coil, I even got terrified I had picked up some horrid disease, despite never sleeping around (poor boyfriend was accused of all sorts of misdemeanours!!)and went to get self checked at gum clinic - Very scary!- but as soon as it came out I was a new person. Perhaps they just suggest it can be in place for longer than it really should be? Sorry to rain on anyone's parade, but I just wouldn't recommend it.

Have just returned fron Gynae clinic. I need a laparoscopy but they wont do it as I need to loose 10kg. Have been told to have the mirena coil fitted under anaesthetic as it was tried without and my cervix would not open. I cannot have children but no one knows why. Found this website and I am horrified at some of the stories. I have made an appt to see my GP to ask for a second opinion at a different Hospital. I already suffer with alot of the symptoms that you all have with the coil as well as a problem with excess hair due to pcos. I am certainly thinking twice about having the procedure carried out. I think I would rather put up with the pain for a couple of days a month and keep taking the tablets prescribed to help. I have not yet been able to find any medical research on this coil other than what it does and all thgose sites visited give no side effects, but will keep looking. Any advice would be great

There's a very informative site with lots of information on how to lose weight and get rid of the mirena iud side effects and find other natural birth control options. Check out: mirenadetox.com/mirena-weight-gain/ Her detox has also been immensely helpful to my recovery and I seriously recommend it

I'm having mine removed after 7 months of constant spotting and acne. I'm sure it works for some but for me it was a nightmare!

Kittykat7 · 02/08/2014 11:47

It was a nightmare for me. Greasy skin, spots, headache, permanent PMT & constant bleeding with clots. I stuck it for 3 mths but had to get it taken out.
