Private health insurance

Hi
Please can someone explain how private health insurance works (in uk)
For example pre existing conditions -
would you be able to check a change in a mole that you haven't had checked before ? Even though had different ones checked in the past .
Asked 'vitality' but the woman in call centre didn't seem to know !
Are the private GP aspect worth it?

Plus any recommendations for companies to use for me and my child .

Thanks in advance Smile

Sometimes preexisting conditions are covered, sometimes not. There may be a screening questionnaire beforehand. You can pay as you go which might be cheaper than an excess and premiums.

The kind of thing I would want it for for example would be if any breast lumps appeared to get checked out quicker, I've had two before (both were fine ) so would that not be included ?
Harmless Breast lumps very common fir example but can occur more than once throughout your life .
Obviously for any other medical thing that may occur too .

You would need to declare the history and they decide whether to exclude or weight the premium.

I have a vitality policy. When you go to sign up you fill out a form to declare any existing conditions. This means something you are diagnosed with. In the example of a mole, that would be covered under primary care GP and referral if needed for removal or dermatology so that's not a pre-existing condition. If you already had a diagnosis of melanoma for example, this may still be covered.

The price you pay will take into account any existing conditions.

If you just want a private GP then you can get that anywhere now on pay as you go, but if you want timely healthcare in the event it's needed then private healthcare will give you that piece of mind.

My husband and child are also on the policy, and there are other benefits with their health programme to get free cinema tickets, discounts and cash back which none of the others really do.

You don’t need an annual policy to see a private doctor you can pay a one off fee.
