Anyone suffering or suffered from this? How was your recovery?

One of my DC has just been diagnosed with it, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced it or had a family member recover well from it?

Thanks 😊

I have had it twice, related to my rheumatoid arthritis, about ten years apart. It’s apparently inflammation of the lining of the heart. I was surprised to get it a second time, but suspected that was what it was. Chest pain, both times at night. Attended A and E. On both occasions it settled by itself within a day or two, but on the second I had a small effusion which luckily did eventually go; I was told it would have required drainage if it had got bigger. I don’t think it’s a particularly serious condition, but obviously as I have said an effusion may require drainage. I wish your DC well!

Really sorry you have had the misfortune of being struck down with pericarditis. Sounds like you recovered quickly thankfully.

DC is usually active cycling every day but has been advised to take a week off school, to continue with the ibuprofen three times daily. He is out of breath just climbing stairs at home. It got worse so he went back to A&E who just advised rest & painkillers and to contact GP in a week if no improvement.

Possibly brought on by a viral infection? No one knows for sure. Bloods were done and came back clear.

Thank you. I was in my early 60s the first time, but at that time knew a deep sea diver in his 30s who had it, so I think it can strike at any age. I’m pleased it wasn’t anything more serious. Fingers crossed he makes a full recovery 🤞🙂
